Alpha King Larry strode over, his fierce gaze falling upon Alpha Kilian. “What happened?”
“Grandpa,” Alpha Kilian greeted politely before launching into his explanation. “Lara is undergoing emergency treatment as we speak.”
Alpha King Larry narrowed his eyes, his alpha dominance evident.
Caroline sensed the tension in the air, realizing that Alpha Kilian and the old man had a deeper relationship than she initially thought.
Standing before her was the formidable Alpha king himself, a legendary figure in the werewolf kingdom and the business world. His name echoed with reverence and fear abroad, known for his sharp mind and unrivaled business acumen.
Caroline suddenly felt dwarfed in his presence, at a loss for words. She bowed her head in respect to him.
At that moment, the emergency room door swung open, admitting the doctor into the scene.
“Which one of you is Lara Gareth’s family?” he asked, his voice laced with urgency.
“I am,” Caroline answered without hesitation.
“Oh, there is nothing wrong with the patient,” the doctor assured, dispelling the fear that gripped their hearts. “Low blood sugar level and not eating had caused her to faint, that’s all. It’s nothing serious, so don’t worry too much. She will be transferred to a ward in a moment for proper care.”
A wave of relief washed over Caroline, gratitude filling her heart.
“Thank the Moon Goddess it’s nothing serious,” she exclaimed, her voice full of gratitude. Turning to the doctor, she added, “Thank you so much, doctor.”
“It’s all part of my duty,” the doctor smiled before departing without another word.
Alpha Kilian’s tense brows relaxed slightly upon hearing the good news, his worry dissipating.
Alpha King Larry rolled his eyes at his grandson’s reaction, unable to withhold his irritation. “What are the odds of the two women ending up in the same damn hospital?”
Alpha Kilian remained silent, unsure of how to respond.
“If there’s nothing else, I’m going to see Nelly,” Alpha King Larry declared abruptly, spinning around and leading Donna and Ben away without giving his grandson a chance to speak.
He didn’t even spare Caroline a greeting, his indifference evident.
Caroline watched them leave, a frown forming on her face as she pondered their abrupt departure.
Hmm, those two kids…
Before she could delve further into her thoughts, Lara was wheeled out, drawing Caroline’s attention back to her.
“How are you, Lara? Are you alright?” Caroline asked, concern etched on her face.
…
In another part of the hospital, Donna and Ben rushed to Nelly’s ward as soon as Alpha King Larry brought them there.
“Hello, Nelly,” the children chorused, their voices filled with excitement.
A smile spread across Nelly’s pale face upon seeing them. “You’re back!”
“We missed you so much,” Donna couldn’t help but act coquettishly.
“Have you been good?” Nelly asked, her voice filled with tenderness.
“Of course, we have,” Donna replied confidently.
Alpha King Larry interjected with a smile, observing the interaction. “Donna and Ben have been well-behaved and sensible. They were a delight to have around.”
Nelly gazed up at Alpha King Larry, gratitude shining in her eyes. “Thank you for taking care of them, Alpha King Larry. I hope they haven’t caused any trouble.”
“There’s no need to thank me,” Alpha King Larry replied graciously. “It was no trouble at all. I’m happy to do it. In fact, I would gladly welcome any trouble that comes with them in the future. I adore children.” Deep inside, he yearned to protect them forever, but he couldn’t reveal his true emotions so easily.
Alpha Wade observed his friend, feeling a mix of sadness and helplessness. He knew the struggles Alpha King Larry faced.
Donna chose that moment to blurt out, unable to contain her excitement. “I saw a fierce old lady scolding Mr. Handsome outside just now, Nelly.”
Awkwardness filled the air in the ward for a few seconds, as the remark hung heavily.
“What fierce old lady?” Alpha Wade inquired, his curiosity piqued.
Realizing the implication of her words, Donna struggled to find the right explanation.
“Oh, it’s like this,” Alpha King Larry intervened, stepping in to clarify the situation. “Alpha Kilian’s assistant fainted from hypoglycemia and was brought to the hospital. Her mother happened to be present and got a little loud.”
He spoke on behalf of his grandson, shielding him from further scrutiny.
Nelly smiled knowingly. “I saw them earlier.”
“You saw them?” Alpha King Larry repeated incredulously.
As he tried to explain the circumstances, he couldn’t help but shudder at the thought of the trouble Alpha Kilian had landed himself in.
What a stroke of bad luck. Out of all the hospitals in the Moonwalk pack, he had to choose this one where everyone could witness his downfall. It seems he dug his own grave so deep that not even I can help him out of it. In short, he deserves what’s coming.
Alpha Wade seemed to grasp the gravity of the situation. “I must commend Alpha Kilian for his audacity,” he remarked with a teasing tone.
“He fails to pay attention to what he should, yet jumps headfirst into matters where he shouldn’t.”
Will Alpha King Larry understand the obvious implications? If he wishes to see his beloved great-grandchildren in the future, he must stand by their side! As for Alpha Kilian, he can hang himself however he pleases. It’s not that we won’t assist him, but we simply can’t. The outcome depends solely on his actions!
Unaware of their conversation, Nelly was lost in her own thoughts.
“Grandpa,” she suddenly addressed Alpha King Larry, breaking the silence. “Could you ask the doctor when I can be discharged?”
Alpha Wade’s frown deepened. “Discharged? How can you leave the hospital with such serious injuries?”
Nelly shrugged, her determination evident. “They are just superficial wounds. I can take care of them at home.”
“Superficial wounds?” Alpha Wade exclaimed in disbelief. “You have a fracture and a concussion! You must stay for at least another two weeks.”
“I know my body well enough,” Nelly protested firmly. “There’s no need for that.”
“No, you will stay until you have fully recovered. The doctor will decide when you’re fit to be discharged.” Alpha Wade’s tone left no room for negotiation.
“Grandpa…”
Alpha King Larry instinctively understood Nelly’s desire to be discharged was somehow related to Alpha Kilian.
Oh no, this is going to be a big problem!
Unable to remain silent, he said, “That’s right, Nelly. Just listen to your grandfather. Your injuries are serious. You mustn’t take your recovery lightly.”
“I know you all worry about me, but I know my body,” Nelly insisted, unwavering.
Her decision stood firm, unmoved by the pleas of the two old men.Material © of NôvelDrama.Org.
In that critical moment, Alpha King Larry gave Donna and Ben a knowing wink, a silent message that the children understood.
“Are you angry, Nelly?” Donna asked, locking her gaze with Nelly.
“Angry? What could I possibly be angry about?” Nelly retorted, her voice tinged with confusion.
“Angry with Mr. Handsome…” Donna’s voice trailed off into a whisper, but the implication lingered in the air.
An unspoken question hung in the room, lingering on everyone’s mind, yet left unasked.
Nelly frowned at the child’s peculiar question, her mind trying to decipher its meaning.
