CHAPTER LVI

She couldn’t wait. Her heart was thumping wildly against its ribcage, and she didn’t know why. It was either she was just too happy to leave or scared of being found by Chase or his men.
But she had nothing to worry about. Saige had made sure no one suspected them and that Sophia left without anyone knowing in the car she arranged for her.
No one would even be able to recognize her. Sophia was sure of that. Blonde hair wig; check. Green eye contact lens; check. Dressing style other than that of someone of her nature: check. Make up; check. Everything was ready.
Sophia was still on a que at the checkpoint. She was behind the person whose luggage was being checked. She was nervous and anxious at the same time. Her palms were sweaty, and she fisted her hands into ball, placing it on her chest. She could feel the wild thumping of her heart beneath her hands as she looked round the airport to be sure none of Chase’s men were lurking around.
Soon, it was her turn. Sophia passed a small, innocent smile to the lady in uniform standing there as her bag was slid into the CT scanning machine.
Suddenly, the machine beeped, and the lady standing there frowned at Sophia, then pulled out her bag from the machine before dropping it aside.
The lady walked up to Sophia. “Ma’am please step aside let the others have their luggage’s scanned,”
With a small nod, Sophia rubbed her clammy palms on her dress and stepped aside towards where her bag was, watching as the lady walked to her, another man taking her place at the spot.
“Is- Is there any problem, please?” Sophia asked the lady who was already zipping her bag open. No one aside from her had been told to move aside, and it confused her.
The lady looked up at Sophia. “You may be carrying something illegal in your bag. That’s why we have to search your bag,”
“But, it’s only my clothes that are in there,” Sophia said.
“We can’t be so sure,” the lady replied. She removed Sophia’s new clothes from the bag and then raised the bag up to Sophia’s line of sight. “Look, there are cocaine and different types of drugs in your bag. There’s also a bomb,”
Sophia let out a gasp along with others who were standing there as well. “I-,”She walked closer to the woman.” I swear, I don’t know how it got there. I-Saige had-I-I promise, I don’t know how -”
She was cut in by the woman. “There’s no needed explanation for this here. If you want to give an explanation on how these things got to your luggage, you can kindly do that at the police station,”
Blood rushed to her ears, and her knees gave out, but she somehow managed to stand on her wobbly feet. “I promise; I know nothing about these drugs. Believe me,”
The lady ignored her and pulled out a small phone. She dialed a number before placing the phone on her ear. “Yes, there’s a problem. Yeah, a lady here was found with cocaine, other drugs, and a ticking time bomb,” She eyed Sophia up with disgust in her eyes. “Yes, please. Come and take her away from here. She wants to create a scene,” Once she was done with the call, the lady glared at Sophia. “You better not create a scene here else your punishment will be doubled,”
People were already gathered around, watching the drama. Some stared at Sophia with disgust laced eyes while others stared at her with pity.
Tears were already flowing down Sophia’s cheeks. She then moved closer and reached out to touch the lady. “Please, you have to -”
Sophia was cut off by the lady who shoved her away, and she tripped. Her wig fell off, earning gasps from onlookers. She was about to fall but luckily for her, strong arms were encircled round her body, pulling her to the hard chest of the owner of those arms.
Sophia whimper got struck in her throat when she looked up at the man holding her in his arms, with a clenched jaw and narrowed glare towards the lady that had just pushed her.
“How dare you treat my sister like that?” He seethed and moved Sophia aside.
The lady scoffed, running her gaze all over Lucas. “Sister? Well then, how would you feel to know your sister was planning to leave the country disguised as a blonde with a bag of cocaine, drugs, and a ticking time bomb?”
Lucas gritted his teeth and moved closer to the lady, staring down at her. “Sophia would never do such. I know her very well,”
“Great,” the lady’s colleague sneered and moved closer. “You call her Sophia, but her passport says a different name,”
Lucas glared at the man. “Control your fucking tongue else I swear, you’ll regret it,” He was trying so hard. So hard not to just pull out his gun and shoot them both to their deaths.
“Tell us something new,” the lady said with a tilt of her head. “We’re used to hearing that particular line from rich, arrogant bastards like -”
That was the moment something snapped in Lucas. He cut her off by pulling out his gun, and instantly, he shot her colleague on the chest, rendering him dead there and then.
Sophia’s eyes widened. Screams and gasps followed next, and in the blink of an eye, people started running off.
More men in uniform approached them. Lucas was faster. He began shooting at them, and in less than a minute, Chase’s men followed, shooting the security guards in the building.
“Come the fuck with me,” Lucas growled, grabbing Sophia’s wrist.
“No,” Sophia whimpered. “I-I can’t go with you,”
“Dammit, Sophia,” He glared at her. “If you continue behaving stubborn, I swear more people are going to die in here. Don’s orders,”
“I said I don’t want to -”
Lucas cut her off by grabbing her arm. He pulled her with him until they got out of the airport as she cried.
She was harshly thrown away by him, and she fell on her knees, directly in front of a pair of shiny black shoes.Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
A sob left Sophia’s lips, and she looked up at the person wearing the shoes. Her breath hitched as she looked at his emotionless eyes. “Ch-Chase,”
