Chapter 53
Chapter 53
"I like this blue one. The sleeves are long enough and it'll keep you warm since it's nighttime." Gladys
said as she showed me the long sequin gown that had a plunging neckline and long sleeves. My eyes
widened as she shoved it into my hands in excitement
'You could wear that.' Keira chipped in 'If you want to look like a disco ball.'
It was true. I hated it. It was too glaring and it looked like I was putting in too much effort for something I
wasn't really interested in going for. Given that my hair was already eye-catching, it would be too much
for me to throw on a dress that looked like they had poured all the worlds glitter on it.
"You really don't have to do this Gladys." I said, hoping that she would leave me be
We were currently in the wardrobe, with heaps of clothes scattered all around us. I had come home to
find her rummaging through to find what she called 'the perfect dinner date dress'. It was a pain and a
hassle for me. After I had woken up from my little trance, I was just about ready to go into my bed and
take a nap. Xander had held onto me longer than I wanted as Marcus explained that this weird plane I
had entered was a means for me to communicate with heavenly beings and that although he didn't
expect me to drift off so soon, it wasn't a cause for alarm.
Surprisingly, I was taking all these things well and showed no signs of being overwhelmed. It didn't
change the fact that I couldn't catch a break though. I had been stressing about the meeting between
Xander and Marcus and hadn't gotten proper sleep yet, but here I was, standing in a room with
numerous clothes, dreading the hours that passed till I had to step out to have dinner with him.
"Oh, I want to dear. This is your first official date." she said
"That I was tricked into going for." I replied, a scowl on my face as I sat on one of the chairs "Now that I
think about it, why don't we call this a business deal instead?"
"You'll have to discuss that with Alpha Xander, my dear Luna. Now, come over here and help me pick
out a pair of shoes for that dress."
"Isn't there something else I could wear? No offence, but this dress is an eyesore. I wouldn't be caught This is from NôvelDrama.Org.
dead wearing it."
She pouted and turned back to the stack of clothes "Well, there's literally nothing else here! It also
doesn't help that he didn't say where you were going."
"I already told you what I wanted." My hands picked up the red silk slip dress that she had thrown
nearby and I watched her frown
"That's too simple!" One look at my face was all it took for her to sigh in resignation "Fine, but you're
going to put on enough jewellery to make up for how simple it is."
"Why, thank you Gladys but I think it doesn't really matter what I wear."
'Because we'd look gorgeous in anything we'd put on!' There was that and also the fact that...
"I don't want to look like I'm trying too hard."
She giggled and placed a pair of silver strappy heels at my feet. "You haven't been trying at all, but that
hasn't stopped him, has it?"
Honestly, it didn't. Xander was pushier and demanding than I thought he was. He was also clingy and
liked to get his way. His jealousy was childish and so was his possessiveness. Despite being this way,
he seemed distant enough to not let me see things he thought I shouldn't be seeing and also had the
uncanny ability to bring out feelings that should stay buried till the day I die.
"I'll be downstairs if you need anything." Gladys said and then left me to my business
'We have about an hour and a half. Want to start getting ready?' Keira asked. I sighed heavily in
response, standing up from the chair
"I might as well."
Keira and I had been talking continuously again. It was almost like she was never gone. It was
comforting to hear her voice in my head now and I hoped I wouldn't be put in a situation that that would
have to change. As I took a shower and got dressed, we spoke back and forth about different things. It
didn't take long before I was standing in front of the mirror wearing the dress. It was simple enough, but
what I really loved was the fact that it was just the right amount of sexy. I loved being a bum, but having
sexy clothes made me happy too.
Even if the one who paid for the sexy clothes was my murderous mate's, almost equally murderous
father. I would have to talk to Xander about changing everything. Possibly giving the clothes out to
charity.
Despite Gladys' warnings, I put on the simplest pair of earrings I could find, pairing it with a simple
pendant, two bracelets and a few rings. There was no need to carry a purse and to be honest, I didn't
really want to. I curled my hair slightly and parted it from the side, also making sure to put on makeup.
I noted that I had no idea how to makeup myself and could only do basic things like foundation,
powder, lipgloss and mascara. My eyeliner game was also shit. I had never had to bother about these
sort of things as I had never gone out on a date and I never considered I'd ever go out on one. The
stuff I knew, I had learnt from observing Smith and also from watching Maria.
By the time I was done, I nodded my head in approval and walked out with a coat on my arm. My heels
clicked on the floor as I walked and I took my time as it had been a while that I had worn heels.
'He's downstairs.'
I could sense him too. His scent got stronger as I walked downstairs, my hand clutching the railing for
support. The closer I got, the harder my heartbeat against my chest. It was almost deafening and I felt
myself holding my breath. He was at the very bottom, one hand in his pocket and the other holding his
phone against his ear. He was wearing a dress shirt and pants, the muscles of his back flexing
obviously under the fabric.
Like those damn romance movies, everything began to slow down as he turned gradually to face me.
Our eyes locked once I got to the final step and I watched him stare at me, his face not giving anything
away but his eyes telling me something different. From the way his jaw tightened and his hand
clenched tighter on his phone, I knew...
It was going to be a long-ass night.
