Chapter 75
“Sam… no…. no” Adrian whispered.
“Adrian, can you open your eyes? You’re in the hospital but don’t move, ok? You have a chest tube in. The doctor will be here soon.” Sam explained.
The nurse walked in. “Is our patient awake?”
“I think so. He was trying to talk and seems like he’s more aware.” Sam replied.
“Keep talking to him. Let him hear your voice.” She replied.
“Adrian? It’s Sam. Can you open your eyes?” Sam asked.
“Sam?” He whispered.
It took multiple tries but he managed to open his eyes. The nurse got him some water and left to call the doctor.
“What happened?” He rasped.
“Drink some more water. It’ll help your throat but just small sips.” Sam replied.
After a few more sips Sam explained. “You remember getting drunk?”
He nodded. “You remember Jo?” His eyes widened then he nodded.
“We fought and I left. Then you got on your motorcycle drunk and went after me.”
He looked confused like he was trying to remember. “I remember everything up to you leaving.” He finally confirmed. “Nothing after that.”
Sam texted Jax he was awake. Dr. Mike walked in.
“So, I hear someone is awake?” He walks over to the bed. “Let me check your vitals and listen to your lungs then we’ll talk.”
Smokey nodded. After he checked him over the doctor explained all his injuries and everything they had to do. He explained healing times, medications, and precautions he needed to take until his ribs were healed and his lungs weren’t in danger of being punctured again.Exclusive content © by Nô(v)el/Dr/ama.Org.
“How long will I need to stay in here?” Smokey asked.
“At least a week. Healing will play a major factor. Then we’ll re-evaluate and go from there.” Doc replied.
“Sam’s a nurse. She can take care of me at home.” Smokey replied.
“Yes, but she doesn’t have equipment to see internal injuries.” Dr. Mike replied.
The doctor left. At first the silence was loud and awkward.
“Sam I’m sorry about what happened.” Smokey sighed. “What a fucked-up mess.”
“Maybe now isn’t the right time. You just woke up and are badly injured.” Sam replied.
“No, I need to work this out.” Smokey replied. “It’s tearing me up inside.” “I don’t know why it happened. I know I was way too drunk. Not saying that excused it. Just saying that fueled the situation.” He explained.
“That with the shock of seeing her after all these years. She left without a word. I was torn up for a long time. I didn’t deal with it. I just ignored it. But taking her to my room was so many levels of fucked up.”
“I think you still have unresolved feelings for her. I really think you would have fucked her had I not barged in and caught y’all. God! I’ll never be able to get that image out of my head!” Sam replied.
“I think you broke us. I don’t know if I can ever trust you again. A part of me says if you really loved me and I was the one for you, you could or would never have done that to me.” She explained.
“I don’t know what to say. We honestly were just talking at first. She said she knew it was wrong to blame me for her brother’s death. I was relieved to hear that. I think I needed to hear that. I’ve carried that guilt for a long time.” Smokey replied.
“Then after we talked, I told her about you. And she started taking her clothes off then trying to get mine off and kissing me. I was telling her no and pushing her away at first, but I was so clumsy I fell on the bed and she climbed on top of me. Then you burst in. I swear that’s all that happened.” He explained.
“So how do you feel about her? You still love her?” Sam asked fearfully.
“Honestly? Angry, irritated, and confused.” Smokey answered. “Also relieved and free of guilt. And I realize our relationship wasn’t as solid as I thought for her to just up and leave me.”
“I still can’t get over what I saw! If I hadn’t burst in, would you have fucked her?” Sam asked.
“I’d like to think no. Because of you and the baby.” Smokey begun.
“But you’re not sure?” Sam asked. “I saw your hard on. Your body was ready to fuck her!” Sam cried.
“Baby don’t cry.” Smokey begged.
“I can’t help it. You shattered my heart and broke my trust.” Sam replied. “I don’t know if we can survive this.”
“God! I deserve everything that happened to be for being so stupid! I’d give anything to take it back, but I can’t.” Smokey pleaded.
“Was what she said true?” Sam asked.
“What did she say?” He asked.
“About if I could make you explode like she could?” Sam asked.
“Sam there’s no comparison. Back then we were horny teenagers. Now I’m a grown man. You have nothing to worry about when it comes to our sex life. Trust me.” He explained.
“Then I don’t understand why? If you truly loved me and I’m the one for you, then how could you let that happen?” Sam asked.
“I don’t know. But I do know that I love you Sam. I just fucked up. I don’t know what else to say. And I know that’s not what you want to hear.” Smokey replied.
“And that’s why we need to take a break. You need to figure this shit out about Jo because I can’t be with you right now. I can’t trust you or us with the threat of her hanging around.” Sam explained.
“What about the baby?” He asked.
“I’d never keep you from your child no matter how things go between us. But I’ll never allow our child around that woman!” Sam replied.
“I see.” He replied. “Look I agree I need to deal with Jo. I don’t like it that we need to put us on hold. But I’ll respect your decision. Won’t like it, but I’ll do it.”
“And to be honest about things, Lucas has been staying in Raine’s bedroom taking care of me.” Sam replied.
“You fucking him?” He demanded.
“No. He’s been totally respectful of you.” Sam retorted.
“I’ll deal with Jo, and then we’ll talk.” Smokey ordered.
“Don’t rush into things because you’re pissed or hurt because of me.” He pleaded.
Sam ignored that comment. “Jax has a brother coming to sit with you. I’ve got a doctor appointment and I need stuff from the store. Then Lucas is taking me home. After everything I’ve been totally exhausted.”
Sam left and went into the hall. Her heart was breaking. Jax was there and hugged her. Then he walked into Smokey’s room and shut the door.
