Chapter 37: The Rejection

Michael gave Ethan a cold, piercing stare, making him tremble with fear.

But he found nothing.

“The camera over there isn’t broken; it’s just not powered. There’s no fixing it since there’s no data to begin with.”

The Bano Group is a massive company. And on that day, that one floor lost power?

“Got Jioleek’s contact?”

As a top–tier hacker, he had been off the grid for years. Funny enough, his first client after coming back was Ben.

“I can get in touch with their company.”

“Tell them to name their price. We’ll pay whatever they ask, as long as they take the job.”

Michael never lacked money, whether under Paramount Airlines or Shawn Heavy Industries.

“Sure thing, Mr. Shawn.”

After dinner, Chloe headed home. Once she finished freshening up, she noticed an email on her tablet.

She opened the message and saw it: “I’m from Paramount Airlines.”

Chloe raised an eyebrow, thinking, “Isn’t the Shawn family the ones running Paramount Airlines?”

“You must be Jioleek, right? Paramount Airlines wants to team up with you and is willing to pay ten times the market rate.”

Quotes accepted under Jioleek’s name don’t come cheap.

If you multiply it by ten again, that’s a ton!

Chloe saw through his arrogance and knew it was Michael himself.

He’s the only one who’d offer multiple times the price.

Sorry, we don’t take on projects from Paramount Airlines.

“Why?

“Not a fan.”

The message froze Michael’s fingers.

This was the first time he heard someone didn’t like Paramount Airlines‘ program.

You don’t even know what the project is. How can you be so

sure?

“Your tone leaves no doubt.”

Chloe snapped, “Does your company even know basic manners? You should say things like ‘hello,‘ ‘thank you,‘ and ‘please.‘ After all, you’re the one asking me for a favor.”

Chloe’s been with Michael for three years. She knows his temper better than anyone.

She thought, “Right now, he has no clue that I’m Jioleek.”

“Time to unleash three years of pent–up frustration!

For the first time ever, Michael felt personally attacked. His eyes nearly shot daggers at the computer screen.

Just as he was about to type, Chloe sent him another message.

Our team rolls with the vibes and mood for missions. Right now, I’m not feeling you. Even if you offer a hundred times the price, I won’t take the job–unless you call me daddy.

Candy gaped in shock as she watched Chloe boldly hit send.

“You’re re

really brave. Aren’t you scared he’ll track your IP

address?”

“If he finds my IP address, I’m done being a hacker.”

Candy patted Chloe’s shoulder. “I really like seeing you like this!”

She thought, “Now that’s the legendary hacker Jioleek everyone used to worship.”

Michael was so furious he almost ripped the keyboard off and tossed it.

He glared at the screen, his eyes dark with brooding intensity.

Michael thought, “This guy’s just a hacker. Does he really think he’s irreplaceable?”

Ethan had been watching from the sidelines. Now, seeing Ethan lose his temper, he stayed silent, terrified of becoming the next target.

“Find another hacker. There’s gotta be someone better than him.”

Michael thought to himself, “He’s really been spoiled by all the praise.”
