Chapter 98~ Trial period
"I can't wait to have you and our children home, baby. I hate having to drop you off," Ryan said after they got out of the car when they arrived at the Davis mansion. He sighed and added, "Being a gentleman is hard."
Ryan walked Lora to the patio of the mansion and coiled his arm around her waist, pulling her close.
"I wish you stayed with me tonight," he remarked in his sexy husky voice.
Lora smiled and wrapped her arms around his neck, looking up at him.
"I know but... I have to tell Mom and Dad about our reconciliation first. Dad may have said that he won't interfere but Mom won't be so easy to convince," she replied. Ryan sighed again before saying, "I know. I noticed her reluctance to accept me last time. But I'll do my best to win her over... if it means I have to eat a hundred chillies-" "Don't even think about it, Mr Kingsley!" Lora scolded. "Try another way... not one that will put you in harm's way."
"Are you worried about me?" Ryan asked, arching an eyebrow.
"Of course I am... you're the father of my children," Lora stated.
"And you love me?" Ryan asked hopefully.
However, Lora didn't reply to that. She smiled and said, "Nice plan, Mr Kingsley. Trying to get me to say those three words, huh?"
Ryan let out a low chuckle. He cupped Lora's left cheek and remarked, "Don't worry... I'm patient. I'll wait until you can comfortably say those magical words back to me. I love you so much."
He lowered his head and connected his lips to hers, kissing her deeply. Lora melted into that kiss, responding to it with equal intensity and passion.
Someone suddenly cleared their throat and Lora stepped away from Ryan like he had burned her. She looked towards the now open doors and her eyes widened to the size of dinner plates. "Mom-"
"What are you doing? Don't tell me you two are together again," Freya Davis questioned.
Lora blushed, mortified that her mother caught them kissing. That was so embarrassing!
She felt like a teen who was caught dating secretly.Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org exclusive © material.
Chuckling awkwardly, she answered, "Um... Mom. You see, Ryan and I-"
"Can I speak with you, Mrs Davis?" Ryan requested, interrupting Lora.
He didn't want her to explain herself. If anything, he was the one responsible for making Freya dislike him, so he should be the one to make her change her mind. Freya frowned. However, she stepped away from the door and invited Ryan in. "We can speak in the other living room. I need to talk to you too." "Mom-"
"Don't interfere, Lora," Freya said firmly.
"I just wanted to say that it's late, you can talk tomorrow-"
"By then it would be too late... I'm afraid you would have already moved in with him. If I have to do something, I have to do it now!" Freya proclaimed. Lora gave Ryan a worried look. However, Ryan just smiled and mouthed, "Don't worry."
Freya led Ryan to the other living room. She took a seat and glanced at him coldly.
"So, you feel you didn't hurt my daughter enough and you've now returned to finish her completely?" Freya accused.
Ryan was taken aback by that question. He cleared his throat and replied, "No... I have no intention to hurt her again-"
"Oh but we don't know that, do we? Ryan Kingsley, I've always known that my daughter never stopped loving you... but do you really love her?"
Ryan's eyes widened. Lora never stopped loving him? She seemed to hate him very much before.
"Surprised? You must be asking yourself why she chased you away if she still loved you?" Freya asked. "That's because she was afraid of getting hurt again. ver called her out on her love for you because knew she was smart and would stay away from you... so, tell me. What did you say to make my daughter accept to take you back after everything?"
Ryan gulped, his stomach knotting with nerves. He could tell that Freya didn't really like him for her daughter.
He couldn't blame her though. Ryan knew he wasn't the husband Lora deserved in the past. He didn't treat her well and took her love for granted. This will always be his regret and he will feel guilty for the rest of his life. However, he wasn't going to give up.
"I showed her my heart, Mrs Davis. I
know I'm yet to prove to you that I will be the best husband to her... but I promise, I'll never hurt her again Please trust me and give me a chance," Ryan pleaded. "I can sign a contract with you right
ever hurt her, you can now. If I
get all my
wealth."
"I don't need your wealth, Ryan. What I want is my daughter's never-ending happiness. I'll never approve of your relationship or your marriage that was done in secret My daughter deserves the best. I
lost her once, and now, I'm making it up to her by making sure she's
always happy," Freya stated.
"That is what I want as well. I want to love her... to make her happy and to give her everything that she's ever desired in this world," Ryan replied. "I really love Lora, Mrs Davis. With all my heart and my soul. And I'll protect her with my life this time." Freya sighed. She could tell that Ryan was serious but she was hesitant about taking the risk.
What if something went wrong and Lora got hurt again? She didn't want to see her daughter lose herself to depression again.
Ryan saw that Freya wasn't convinced. So, he suggested, "How about you give me a trial period? Let's say you give me a chance to prove myself for thirty days... if Lora is happy with me, then you'll give us your blessing. What do you say?"
