Chapter 394
"You too," he said, lifting his hand to ruffle her hair one last time.
Their parting was still dignified.
He smiled as they said goodbye, his eyes misting slightly. "If you ever run into trouble, you can always come to me. Don't be shy." "Thank you." She smiled, a rare sight, and waved at him. "Goodbye, Mr. Casper."
Eliza didn't expect Casper to let go so easily this time.
It was nice, but she felt a sudden emptiness in her heart.
Was it loss?
Or something else she couldn't quite put into words.
Casper walked out of the hospital.
He bent down and got into his car.
Dillon noticed his troubled expression and quickly asked, "Mr. Casper, what's wrong?"
"She wants me to stay away from her, to disappear from her world..." He massaged his brow, his mood heavy.
Dillon was puzzled. Eliza had said things like this many times before, so why did it feel real this time?
"Mr. Casper, you didn't agree to that, did you?"Content © copyrighted by NôvelDrama.Org.
"I did." He thought that true love meant making the other person happy. "I can't stand to see her unhappy."
Dillon was speechless.
That wasn't like Mr. Casper at all.
"Can you really let her go?"
What choice did he have if letting go meant her happiness? "Dillon, let's head back to the family estate. I have some things to take care of." "Understood."
The Welton family estate was very quiet.
Audrey was peacefully engaged in her prayers, while Caroline was always at the company.
Only Mae and Katie were sitting in the living room, snacking and chatting idly.
When they saw Casper return, Katie cheerfully stood up and approached him, hugging his arm. "Casper, what brings you here today? Don't tell me you've come early to celebrate my birthday?" en
She tilted her head, looking at him with a satisfied smile.
Casper coldly glanced at her, brushing off her hold. "You wish."
"But it's my birthday, I thought you'd, you know, consider it." Katie's face fell a little.
Mae looked over, noticing Casper's dark mood, and couldn't help thinking back to the incident a few days ago when Eliza was drugged.
Could it be that he suspected her?
"Casper, you... there's something wrong, isn't there?"
"Which one of you drugged Valerie?" He got straight to the point, not expecting them to deny it. "You, or you?"
Mae and Katie exchanged glances, their hearts skipping a beat.
Then they both shook their heads in denial.
"Casper, why would we drug her? Besides, do you have any proof that we did it?"
Katie guessed that Casper had no evidence.
Even if there was evidence, the drugging was Mae's doing, not hers.
"Not admitting it?" He hated being taken for a fool, his expression darkening "Katie, do you really think I have no evidence? Last time you drugged me, I considered the Welton family's reputation and let it slide, giving you face, yet you repeat your mistakes."
"I didn't drug her, don't falsely accuse me." Katie's eyes trembled.
"Was the drug yours?" He roared, scaring Katie into shrinking back and hiding behind Mae. "Mae, look at Casper, he's so fierce."
"Casper, look at you, getting all
worked up over an outsider, taking it out on your own family. That drug wasn't Katie's doing." Mae tried to smooth things over for Katie, but Casper's expression turned even fiercer, his voice sharp as a knife. "If it wasn't her, then was it you?"
