Chapter 68
Chapter 68
In the classroom.
Cordelia was scrolling through the “Pioneers Group chat when Merry kept rambling on, “Can you believe my idol got a side chick now? Who is this mystery woman? Oh my god, he dropped a cool 200 thousand dollars on a bag! That lucky lady got spoiled rotten by my man… Lia, I just can’t wrap my head around it. My ideal husband’s getting a girlfriend! But I know I gotta be a rational fan. I should be crying tears of joy for him. Do you think his girl is an actress or just some girl next door?”
Cordelia was taken aback.
200 thousand dollars on a bag? Little Parrot must’ve mistaken the number.
Little Parrot was about to continue her tirade when class started. She might have kept going if it were others‘ lesson, but when Latham walked in, Little Parrot turned back around and Cordelia finally had some peace and
quiet.
But barely five minutes later, a note landed on Cordelia’s desk.
She unfolded it to read, “Lia, who’s this vixen who’s bewitched my idol?”
Cordelia was at a loss for words.
That was how Merry harassed her for an entire class. As soon as Latham left the room, Merry spun around, ready to speak, but Cordelia, for once, beat her to it, “It’s not a girlfriend, it’s his mom.”
Merry paused, dumbfounded.
Cordelia let out a breath, relieved to get a word in before Merry could continue, “The bag was a gift for his
mom, not some vixen.”
Merry blinked, dubious, “How do you know that?”
Cordelia replied earnestly, “He said so.”
Merry stared at her, sizing her up before finally cracking a smile, “Lia, I’m touched, you’ve finally learned how to
comfort someone!”
Cordelia was speechless.
“Even though I know you’re just trying to make me feel better, it still means a lot. But that’s not what I wanted to talk about. I’ve been thinking all lesson, my idol is a top celeb back home, his Twitter drama will break the internet for days! Your issue’s gonna be totally buried!”
Cordelia was slightly taken aback.
Merry continued to muse, “Lia, your luck is out of this world!…”
Cordelia tuned out the rest of Merry’s chatter. From Latham and Merry’s conversations, she gathered there must’ve been some negative buzz about her on Twitter, but Bland’s scandal had overshadowed it.
Cordelia might not be the most emotionally intelligent, but she was sharp as a tack.
Suddenly, she realized something…
She picked up her phone and messaged Mr. All–Round, ‘Did you do this for me?‘
Mr. All–Round replied instantly, ‘Yes.‘
Cordelia felt warmth. Her teacher had done so much to protect her without her knowledge. She responded gratefully.
LearnLover said, ‘You’re so good to me.’
At Midnight Scent, Everard held his phone, a smile flickering in his deep eyes.
11-20
Cordelia might seem cold, but her heart was soft.
But was that all?
He texted back, I could be even better to you!
LearnLover replied, ‘T’il repay you.
Repay? Everard curled his lips, his handsome features softening. How will you repay me?
LeamLover replied, ‘Whatever you ask, I’ll do my best to fulfill it‘
Cordelia was serious, the textbook–style answer was adorable.
But… Everard asked, ‘Anything at all?‘
LearnLover added, ‘Yes.‘
Everard chuckled lowly at that single word, his thoughts drifting before he replied, ‘Remember you said that. No regrets later.
Cordelia, sensing something odd in her teacher’s tone but not dwelling on it, continued to bury herself in her
studies.
Twitter quieted down.
But the next day, Greenmeadow International School was abuzz!
Because Bland, the movie star whose scandal had brought Twitter to its knees, had arrived at Greenmeadow to shoot a campus scene. He had chosen Greenmeadow International School as the location.
Completely unaware of this development, Cordelia was at Midnight Scent having breakfast.
After taking over as housekeeper, Lorna had dialed in on her tastes, knowing she shared every breakfast with her “boyfriend“. Lorna decided to prepare a three–person portion of a Western–style breakfast each morning for them to enjoy together.
After all, if Cordelia was obsessed with her studies to the point of reserving her romantic moments for breakfast time, who was Lorna to object?
The breakfast from the Delaney family was exquisite, and all three enjoyed it immensely.
After eating their fill, Cordelia pulled on Everard’s hand.
He sat on a stool, resting his chin on his hand, watching the girl. Her face was poreless, and her adorable cheeks was so inviting it made one want to pinch them.
Everard raised an eyebrow, “Girl, fancy a sparring session?”
Cordelia didn’t respond immediately. She was focused on holding his hand, feeling the pain in her chest subside. Then, with a soft gleam in her misty eyes, she agreed, “Sure.” From NôvelDrama.Org.
Ever since learning some fighting skills from Calvert, she had become quite captivated by them. Unfortunately, Calvert wouldn’t teach her anymore or spar with her. Now, she had a willing target. And normally, the thought of hitting this man brought pain to her chest.
Eager, Cordelia got up and loosened her limbs. Then she took a step back with her right foot, fists at the ready.
Everard stood at ease and beckoned her with a curl of his finger, “Come at me.”
At the next moment, Cordelia aimed a kick at his chest.
Old grudges and fresh anger fueled her, and Cordelia put all her might into that kick. Her movement was swift and fierce, but Everard, with an effortless sidestep, dodged the crucial blow. Her ankle was caught with ease. With a firm yank, she found herself tumbling straight into his arms!
As if by accident, Everard’s hand steadied her waist, while his other hand brushed past her cheek…
11:20
The warmth of his grip around her waist was startling. Cordelia narrowed her eyes, fury ready to erupt, but just as her temper flared, he released his hold and stepped back, maintaining a respectable distance.
In her moment of bewilderment, he began to speak slowly, “Your move was fast, but your vulnerability was too apparent, you should…”
Cordelia’s attention was captured, the earlier indignity momentarily forgotten.
In her eyes, Everard had always been a show–off with no real skill, but his sudden display of strength not only failed to make her feel deceived, but instead ignited an exhilarating thrill of encountering a formidable
opponent.
She now had something new to learn!
After Everard finished speaking, Cordelia, eager for another round, was reminded by him, “You’re going to be late for school.”
With that reminder, she finally took her leave.
Once she was gone, Everard looked down at his hands.
The sensation of her touch lingered between his fingers, compelling him to think her slender waist. And her skin was indeed soft and supple…
