Redmption 101
Redmption 101
I continued Chris‘ sentence with a smile, “Don’t tell me you mistook her for me.”
“I-” Chris started to speak.
But I cut him off, “Chris, you hardly ever kissed me.”
He grimaced. In the three years we were together, we held hands and cuddled, yet we rarely shared a passionate kiss.
When he did kiss me, he would kiss my hand, cheeks, or forehead. Even if he did kiss me on the lips, it was always barely a peck.
My statement left him at a complete loss for words, but it also irritated him. He suddenly let me go and ran his hand through his hair. “Yes. I made a mistake and kissed her on impulse, but it meant nothing.”
“Will it only mean something if you sleep with her?” I mocked.
Chris‘ frustration boiled over. “Am I really that vile to you? If I were that kind of person, I would’ve slept with you a long time ago. It would never have come to
this.”
I was taken aback, then I laughed.
Did he mean I wouldn’t have kicked up a fuss in this situation if we had slept together?
There was no logical reasoning behind his thoughts. Did he think we were still living in the olden days when women could only be with one man?
Instead of delving into it further, I delivered a sharp retort, saying, “But you weren’t interested in me. Isn’t that why you never slept with me?”
Only then did I realize that his words, though once hurt me deeply, now served as a powerful weapon against him.
Chris‘ eyes narrowed. “Madeline, you still can’t get over that, can you?”
“I’ve gotten over it. We broke up, but you’re the one who keeps bothering me and forcing me to bring up our past,” I reminded.
“Broke up?” Chris sneered. “Don’t think I don’t know you left me to be with
Brandon. You two were associated way earlier and were already living together in Amaty.”
I wasn’t surprised that he knew I had been in Amaty. After all, Bree had already mentioned it. But I didn’t expect him to think Brandon and I had already known each other for a long time.
“If that’s what you want to believe, fine. At least I only met Brandon after we broke up, unlike you, who kissed your good friend’s wife while he was still alive. “I shot back in the face of his tantrums.
I noticed that he grew agitated whenever brought up him and Jewel. I wondered if it was because of guilt or something else.
“So, you’re protecting Brandon now and refusing to let him go just so you can use work as an excuse to date him?”
His ability to turn the tables never failed to amaze me.”
“If you say so.”
I didn’t deny it.
He glowered. “Madeline, believe it or not, I can make him disappear from the industry right now.”
“I believe you.” I looked him straight in the eyes. “If he goes, I go. If he disappears, I disappear with him.”
“You” Chris raised a finger at me.
“Chris Gildon, you’re the one who cheated on me. You’re the one who got bored. I gave you what you wanted, but you’re still harassing me. Don’t you find that pathetic?” I didn’t hold back.
“Harassing you? I’m just trying to stop you from making a mistake. You have no idea how deceitful men can be,” Chris said as he tugged at his collar.
“I don’t need to know. You’ve already shown me. Content (C) Nôv/elDra/ma.Org.
Chris froze at my words. He stared at me with wide eyes, as if he couldn’t believe that was how I saw him.
I focused on the key points of our argument and said decisively, “Chris, just to be clear again, I stay only if Brandon stays. If you have him transferred or do

anything to him, I’ll follow.”
With that, I turned around and walked away, not seeing his hands drop in defeat behind me. I also missed the desolate look in his eyes, as if he had just lost his entire world.
