THE DRAGON
**The Author's Point of View**
Fear gripped Lucinda as she pushed her new boss away and crawled on the concrete floor away from the dragon, terrified. The fire-breathing dragon was flapping his massive wings in the air, carrying a lot of wind as he was looking down at them. Her boss got up, wiped the dirt off his body, and extended his hand to Lucinda. She slowly gave him her hand and got up on her feet, staring at the dragon before them.
"Welcome, Ralph, did you bring my food? Don't tell me you came empty-handed... And who is this gorgeous lady? Don't tell me she is your girlfriend." His deep and thunderous voice was the only thing they could hear. The dragon rested his eyes on Lucinda.
"I brought your food as usual; you talk too much. She is my new assistant, the person who will be serving you daily." Ralph explained and looked around for the small bag that contained Deacon's food before dropping it in front of him. Deacon stared at the food and slowly landed on the ground, folding his wings as he moved closer to the bag, sniffing the food, and ripping it open with his sharp claw. He started eating the meat that was falling out of the bag. "What's your name, pretty girl?" He asked in a rumbling tone. Lucinda smiled at him and marveled that there was a living dragon on earth who could talk. "My name is Lucinda." She beamed.
"Wow! I love your accent. You talk like you are a British lady." Deacon remarked.
"Deacon, stop flirting with her! I am out of here." Ralph whined.
"Are you going already? You haven't given me any updates today; don't forget, I am a big part of your company." he stated.
"I know, and thanks to you, the funds are coming in because of your diamonds and crystals." Ralph commented. Deacon glanced at Lucinda for a second before directing his attention back to Ralph, who was chewing the meat loudly. "So... have you seen any demons with the sapphire that can set me free?" Deacon asked.
"No, I haven't..." Ralph said, stroking his chin. His eyes lit up as he stared at Lucinda. "But her earrings looked just like the sapphire you described." Ralph said.
"Oh really?" Deacon inquired narrowing his big dragon eyes in the direction of Lucinda's ear. She covered her ear swiftly, forcing a smile. "I-It's not a real sapphire; it's plastic." She assured them.
"Hmm. Then why are you hiding it? Is it precious to you?" Deacon questioned.
"Yes, it is," she replied bluntly, battling her lashes.
"Did your boyfriend give it to you?" Ralph asked, raising his brow.
"No, my hus... I mean, my sister bought it for me on my birthday." Lucinda muttered.
"Anyway, I am still trying to find a sapphire, and it seems like all the demons are hiding somewhere, or someone is hiding them..." Ralph paused for a moment, his expression changing into an angry one with his chin raised. "I haven't been able to find the one that murdered Abel yesterday, I won't forgive that bastard!" Ralph roared, clenching his fist in rage; his eyes became blue.
"I have told you to always control your temper; you are not a child anymore." Deacon stated. Lucinda stared at Ralph with shocked eyes. "Y-your eyes are blue." She stuttered.
"Don't worry, darling; you will get used to it. His eyes change color depending on his mood; blue when he is angry, red when he is fighting, and green when he is happy." Deacon explained. Everything made more sense to Lucinda. "Wow! I don't know if I should be asking this, but." Lucinda paused, looking at their serious gazes. "Don't worry, you can ask anything." Deacon assured her. She found him very welcoming. "Um, why do you need a sapphire?" She asked. "No, no, I don't think you should be knowing stuff like this; we don't know you enough to tell you, and besides, you just started working for me; don't push your luck." Ralph stated angrily.
"Come on, Ralph, she is your new assistant; she needs to know these things." Deacon remarked. Ralph let out a sigh. "Okay, can we trust you?" He enquired. "Of course," she assured.
"Okay, Deacon needs a sapphire to put in a hole in his chest so he can turn back into a human." Ralph said quietly as her pupils grew larger. "He is a human?!?" She yelled, half-surprised.
"Yes, I am... I am not just a human; I am the guardian of the earth. I was assigned by God to stop demons from entering the human world, but Lucifer attacked me and turned me into a dragon. When he found out a sapphire could turn me back into a human again, he made sure, there was no sapphire left on earth." Deacon explained in a sad tone.
"Mmm, what makes you guys think demons have sapphires?" Lucinda inquired. Ralph snorted. "You are quite smart, I must say; I thought you were a bimbo." He said and continued. "We capture demons to use them as bait to get sapphires from hell, but any one of them we catch ends up getting killed or committing suicide." Ralph said.
"Oh, my God! So, you opened this company to catch demons on earth, and how do you have magical powers?" Lucinda asked. Ralph was starting to grow suspicious of her because of the questions she was asking; he was starting to think she was a spy, but Deacon already had a likeness for her. "He was born with magical powers; he is a special human... Sometimes I think the Lord sent him to help me here on earth; his human parents threw him out on the streets when he was just a baby when they discovered he had magical powers." Deacon said in a sad tone.
"That's cruel." She commented.
"That's how people are. They abandon people they love because of one flaw or another." Deacon said.
"They don't love him. If they did, they wouldn't have abandoned him on the streets." Lucinda said.
"You are right, Lucinda," Ralph said, stroking his hair backward, and it distracted her for a second. "I took him in and raised him with the help of a childless woman who lost her baby years ago. Ralph is partially my son, more like a dragon's son." Deacon said with a soft chuckle.Content © NôvelDrama.Org.
"Deacon, I need to go. I am hungry," Ralph said, grabbing Lucinda's right hand without her permission. "Whoa I..." He just hauled her away from Deacon without giving her time to complain.
