Leave You
Anne was busy preparing breakfast this morning. After finishing cooking, she neatly presented the food. A while later, she pulled out a chair and calmly sat down, waiting for her husband to come out of the room.
After a few minutes, the person Anne had been waiting for finally arrived. The man approached and gave her a quick peck before greeting her.
“Good morning, Honey,” the man then pulled out a chair and sat down right in front of his wife. “What’s for breakfast?” Kaivan asked enthusiastically.
“Panini sandwiches,” Anne replied. She then placed a sandwich on Kaivan’s plate, inviting her husband to taste it. “I hope you like it. It’s still warm.”
Kaivan nodded. He picked up a knife and fork, slowly savoring the food that had been specially prepared for him.
Panini itself is a sandwich originating from Italy. It usually uses whole bread that’s grilled. The bread is then horizontally cut and filled with slices of processed meats like salami, mortadella, or prosciutto along with cheese, tomato slices, and tuna.
“Tasty.” Kaivan spoke as he continued chewing his food. He even intentionally cut a piece of the sandwich and fed it to Anna Maria. “You should try it too. Your cooking never disappoints me,” he said with a smile.
“I’m glad you like it.” Anne was certainly pleased. Nowadays, every meal she prepared was always enjoyed by Kaivan. “So, what do you want for lunch or dinner today? I’ll prepare it for you.”
Kaivan finished the warm milk provided for him. Then, shortly after, he shook his head slightly in response to his wife’s question.
“No need. I won’t be at the hotel for lunch. There’s an important meeting I have to attend outside. I might come home a bit late,” he explained.
“So, does that mean I’ll be sleeping alone tonight?” Anne’s face turned into a pout. Her expression genuinely appeared sad. This time, she wasn’t just teasing Kaivan. She truly felt sad because in her final moments, she wouldn’t be able to spend quality time with her husband.
Seeing Anne’s immediate sulking expression, Kaivan smiled. He affectionately pinched her cheek and gave her assurance.
“Don’t be sad. I promise I’ll be in the room before bedtime. I won’t let you sleep alone.”
“Promise?” Anne extended her pinky finger to Kaivan, inviting him to make a pinky promise like children do.
“I promise,” Kaivan replied, linking his pinky finger with Anne’s. “But you also have to promise me. Don’t go anywhere while I’m gone. Whatever happens, never leave the hotel without me by your side.”
Anne nodded, agreeing to the instructions Kaivan had given. After all, it was indeed dangerous to leave the hotel without supervision or protection from her husband. She was aware that her life could be threatened at any moment, given that Luca’s henchmen were likely still lurking around.
“Oh, by the way,” Kaivan added. “I have plans to take you on a honeymoon.”
Anne was instantly surprised by this statement. Out of nowhere, her husband was inviting her on a honeymoon. The problem was, could she accept this invitation?
“Honeymoon?” Anne repeated, her brow furrowing in order to confirm this. “Why all of a sudden are you asking me?”
Kaivan gave a thin smile as he responded.
“We’re already married and officially husband and wife. But even so, we’ve never celebrated a honeymoon like most couples. So, I thought about taking you out of town or even out of the country for a trip.”
“Oh my God.” Anne exclaimed. “Are you sure you want to take me on a honeymoon? Is that safe? Considering my current vulnerable position?”
“Of course, I’m sure.” Kaivan answered, nodding his head repeatedly. “I’ve already told you, if you doubt your safety, I can ask Dominique and his men to escort us tightly.”
Anne immediately smiled.
“Yes, I trust all of you to protect me.”
“Which country would you most want to visit for our honeymoon?” Kaivan asked. He wanted to hear directly from his wife which country she dreams of visiting.
“Switzerland,” Anne confidently replied without much hesitation.
“Swiss? Why choose Switzerland?” Kaivan inquired, curious about why his wife picked that country over others.
“I don’t know. All I know is that since I was a child, I’ve dreamt of visiting that country. Especially Lauterbrunnen in Interlaken. For God’s sake, that place is like heaven. I really want to visit it.” She spoke with sparkling eyes. Kaivan could clearly see how enthusiastic his wife was.
“Alright,” Kaivan nodded. “I’ll take you there,” he continued in a casual tone.
“What do you mean?” Anne asked in confusion.
“Yes, as I said before. We’ll go on a honeymoon to the place you want. I’ll have Mike take care of all the necessary arrangements. We’ll head there as soon as possible.”
“But, Kai. I have to tell you something important. I-I-”
Before Anne could finish her sentence, a loud knock sounded on the door. Mike entered, purposely coming to fetch Kaivan to leave.
“Mr. Kaivan, the car is ready. Our schedule today is to meet an investor from the Netherlands at Canary Wharf.”
Kaivan nodded. He then stood up from his seat. Before leaving, he bid his wife farewell.
“We’ll continue our conversation tonight. I have to go now. Remember, don’t go anywhere without letting me know.”
Anne nodded and then hugged Kaivan tightly. She held onto his body as if they would never see each other again. Likewise, Kaivan reciprocated by hugging her and then leaning down to kiss Anne for a rather long moment. He didn’t care that Mike was there, watching them.
“See you tonight,” Kaivan said before disappearing from Anne’s view.
During the journey to Liverpool, Kaivan remained mostly quiet. Despite having caught his wife meeting another man secretly last night, he put aside his ego and any disappointed feelings that had filled him. In his heart, Kaivan kept reassuring himself that the man from last night was nobody. He was confident that Anne wouldn’t betray his love.
Because of this, the idea crossed Kaivan’s mind to take his wife on a honeymoon. He really wanted to solidify his connection with Anne by making sure she would soon carry his child.
“Mike…” Kaivan suddenly called his assistant, who was seated next to the driver. “Please clear my work schedule for the next few days. Also, arrange for our departure to Switzerland with Anne. If possible, we should head there this week.”
“Alright, I’ll arrange everything immediately,” Mike replied without questioning the order in the slightest.
Meanwhile, in the hotel room, Anne was perplexed. She was struggling with how to tell Kaivan that she would be leaving in a few days. She guessed that he might be disappointed since their honeymoon plans could be postponed for a while.
Indeed, Anne felt guilty at the thought of how disappointed her husband would be. However, what else could she do? She couldn’t escape her responsibilities. It was her duty to complete the mission she had been given.
Still lost in thought, Anne heard her hotel room door being knocked repeatedly. With quick steps, she opened the door and found the man she had met last night.
“Why are you suddenly here?” Anne asked in confusion. She was afraid of the possibility of this man being discovered by people around Kaivan.
“Anne, we have to go now,” the man urgently stated. His facial expression revealed that something significant was happening.
“Go? Now? What do you mean?” Anne was even more confused.
“You have to see this.” The man then showed her his phone, displaying a video recording that featured another man with his hands tied. He was sitting in a chair, his face covered by a black cloth. However, from his clothing, Anne could guess who the captive was.Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.
“Father!” Anne exclaimed. Her eyes widened in shock at what had just been presented to her. “What does all of this mean?”
“As you can see,” the man replied. “They’ve got the target they’ve been looking for. We have to rescue him before it’s too late.”
“But what about-”
“Anne!” the man interrupted. “We don’t have much time. A life is in danger right now. If you want to stay because it’s hard to leave the man you love, feel free to stay. I’ll go alone to complete this mission.”
Anne let out a frustrated sigh. Clearly, things weren’t going as she had thought. Did she have to leave now for real?
Not long after, Anne entered her hotel room, grabbed her phone, and attempted to call Kaivan. Her intention was to say goodbye over the phone, since she couldn’t meet him in person. She wanted to prevent him from searching for her.
Unfortunately, despite her repeated attempts, the calls she placed to Kaivan’s phone never connected. He might have intentionally turned off his phone due to being engaged in a meeting or important discussions.
Feeling desperate and unsure of what to do, Anne grabbed a piece of paper from the nightstand and quickly wrote a message for Kaivan to read when he returned. After finishing the note, Anne hurriedly left the room, joining the man who had been waiting for her outside.
