Chapter 21
Selena gritted her teeth. "Are you threatening me?"
"Threatening you? No way, I'm just having a friendly chat with you."
Selena was at a loss for words. She knew all too well that the jerk always followed through on his threats. He was fearless and relied on his power. Joy had kindly offered her a place to stay, risking the wrath of that bastard. Selena couldn't let him show up and causeThis material belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
trouble.
She had her pride, after all.
Clenching her fists, Selena said, "Just you wait!" After hanging up, she headed to her room to change her clothes.
Joy was curled up in a blanket on the bed, her eyes filled with worry as she watched Selena. "Should I... come down with you?" Even as she said it, her trembling betrayed her fear.
Joy was usually fearless, but even she cowered when faced with Everett's tyranny, showing just how insufferable he usually was.
"It's okay.. You go back to sleep."
Still worried, Joy added, "My phone will be on. Call me if you need anything."
Selena waved her off and strode out.
Downstairs, a black Rolls-Royce was parked under a streetlight, almost blending into the dusk. Derick stood by the car, visibly relieved to see her. "Ma'am, thanks for coming down." Selena glanced at him. The night was chilly, and he was just in a thin shirt, his face pale from the cold.
She suddenly realized it was petty to drag others into her feud with Everett. Derick was just an unlucky employee caught in the middle.
Derick didn't understand why she looked at him with such pity but didn't dare to ask. He simply opened the car door for her, as was his job. "Ma'am, please get in."
Selena looked over to see Everett lounging on the other side of the car, eyes closed. His handsome face was calm and showed no emotion.
Honestly, as long as he kept his mouth shut and pretended to be a pendant, he was quite the sight. Too bad he had to speak!
Selena disdainfully withdrew her gaze and, instead of getting in, told Derick directly, "Derick, you can clock out and head home. I'll take him back home." Derick hesitated. "But..."
"What? Is that a problem?" Selena raised an eyebrow.
Derick quickly shook his head, surprised she was acting like her usual self again. He thought tonight would be endless trouble. Guess she still cared a lot! He reassured her, "Okay, please drive carefully."
Selena smiled, got into the driver's seat, and drove off.
The roads were deserted late at night, and almost no cars were around. Selena glanced at Everett in the rearview mirror. Thanks to her usually steady driving, his frown relaxed, and his lips even curted into a slight smile.
Then, out of nowhere, she floored the gas, the car shooting forward like a rocket. A moment later, she slammed on the brakes.
Caught by surprise, Everett lurched forward, his head smacking against the seatback, and then was thrown back into the seat with a thud.
He snapped his eyes open, but before he could say anything, the car took a sharp left, then a right, his body swaying with the motion.
Everett drunk quite a bit, the nauseating dizziness churned inside him, and his handsome face turned pale.
Once they arrived at Moon Bay, Everett quickly got out, leaning against the car and gasping for air. His dark eyes glared at Selena like daggers. It's like he wanted to tear her apart. Selena dangled the car keys and smirked. "Sorry about that, my driving is just a bit wild. But you wanted a ride, so that means you were ready for anything, right?"
Everett slowly straightened, brows furrowed as he stared at her like he didn't know her anymore.
She'd driven him countless times before, and it was always smooth and steady. To say she wasn't doing this on purpose was a joke!
His irritation with her recent rebellious streak and odd behavior was palpable. It was like she was a different person. A dangerous glint showed in his eyes.
Selena was unfazed, even eager for
him to lose his temper. Right now, it seemed that unless they had a real falling out, this jerk would keep living in his bubble, thinking she was still hopelessly devoted to him.
Everett strode over, towering above her. He looked down at her, a flicker of an unknown emotion in his eyes. But instead of getting angry, he grabbed her hand and led her inside. Selena was taken aback. Knowing his temper, she expected him to blow up. What was he up to now?
Lost in thought, she found herself led back into the villa, up the stairs, into the master bedroom, and then seated on the bed.
Selena snapped back to reality, wondering if he planned to ignore her and pretend the divorce talk never happened.
She stood to leave, but suddenly, all
the bedroom lights blazed on, bright as day Selena looked up to see the latest limited-edition handbags, clothes, jewelry, and shoes, nearly filling half the room.
Everett also took out his wallet, pulled out the supplementary card she had returned, and placed it on the coffee table.
He noticed Selena's face filled with surprise and awe and felt slightly pleased. "Satisfied now?"
