Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 55

She was mulling over how to thank Callum. Doing it face-to-face definitely seemed more genuine than a simple text, plus it would avoid any awkwardness of meeting alone. Even though she had no funny ideas, and Callum, being the stand-up guy he was, wouldn't entertain anything inappropriate, Joy's comments still left her feeling a bit uneasy. It was best to steer clear of any misunderstandings.Content held by NôvelDrama.Org.

Everett's brooding expression didn't ease up one bit when Selena quickly changed her tune; if anything, his lips tightened even more, and his eyes grew darker.

So, she was only keen on going because Callum was attending too?

Catching a glimpse of him, Selena couldn't help but think how unpredictable his moods were getting. She'd already said she'd go, yet he looked all sulky. What a pain!

Not that it was her problem. Selena brushed it off, announcing, "I'm going to change," and headed upstairs without a backward glance.

Having sorted out that tricky business with Sydney, Selena was in high spirits. She slipped into a gorgeous dress and sat down at her vanity to do her makeup.

Before, to fit the Mrs. Bennett image, her makeup leaned towards the mature and sophisticated side, making her look a bit older.

Now, she only had to please herself. She'd picked up a fresh, peachy makeup look from some online video and decided to give it a whirl.

Once she was done, she checked herself out in the mirror. She looked all youthful, vibrant, and simply stunning.

Standing in front of the full-length mirror, she indulged in a bit of self-admiration and even spun around for effect.

In the reflection, she spotted Everett who had somehow snuck up behind her. His dark eyes were slightly narrowed, scrutinizing her with an unreadable expression.

Selena saw him, arched an eyebrow with a touch of sass, turned to face him, and gave her hair a playful flick. "What do you think of my new look?"

His gaze was fixed on her rosy cheeks. Today, her hair was styled in a princess updo with sparkly clips, and her velvet black dress hugged her figure just right, showing off her long, slender legs.

She had a cute yet subtly sexy vibe that was totally captivating. Compared to the heavy, mature makeup she used to wear, she looked like a whole new person.

Everett's Adam's apple bobbed as he swallowed, but then something seemed to cross his mind, and he spoke with a cold edge. "It's ugly."

"And totally tacky!

"Selena, where's your sense of style?"

Selena was taken aback. She should've known better than to ask his opinion, especially from someone who could be swayed by the likes of Margot.

Her good mood evaporated. Holding back her irritation, Selena said, "I'm ready. Let's go."

"You're really gonna step out in that outfit and draw attention to yourself?"

Everett went straight to the wardrobe, quickly returning with a set of clothes and tossing them on the bed. "Wear this."

Selena looked over and saw it was as dull and outdated as ever. She couldn't help but roll her eyes.

"What's wrong with my dress? I'm wearing this, and I'm not changing!" she said, half amused, half annoyed. Before, he couldn't care less about what she wore, and now he was suddenly all opinionated.

"If you don't like it, don't look!"

Grabbing her purse and the gift she'd prepared, Selena made for the door.

"Selena, you're still Mrs. Bennett. When you go out, you rep my reputation. What, you think just

because Ricky's mess is sol

you can fly solo again?"

Everett's gaze was ice-cold, pinning her with his stare. "Your dear uncle doesn't matter anymore? You don't want a divorce? You're willing to walk away from your five percent stake in Bennett Corporation"
