Chapter 606
Chapter 606
“Yes. Why do you ask?” He decided to stick with the boss’s instructions.
“How long were you two there?” Cynthia continued to probe.
“For a few hours. We arrived when Dr. Carter was having his meal. The boss and 1 joined him. After the meal, Dr. Carter took the boss inside, but I’m not quite sure what happened in there,” Yoel replied, well aware that Ms. Yates had the means to verify his response.
“You didn’t go in?”
“Dr. Carter asked me to wait outside.”
Having heard his reply, Cynthia was certain that Sean must have done something with Joshua. There was no reason not to let Yoel in for a simple cufflink. After all, there was nothing secretive where Joshua stayed
“Ms. Yates, is something wrong?” Yoel asked, his heart pounding with apprehension.
“Not at all. Joshua has a fever. I’m just trying to figure out where things could have gone wrong.” Cynthia reassured him, already planning to question Sean.
“Fever?” Yoel was bewildered “How could the boss catch a cold? He wasn’t exposed to any chilly conditions yesterday.”
Then it struck him! He remembered hearing a faint sound of water when he had phoned the buss the night before. Could it be that the boss had taken a cold bath? That was highly likely given his personality!
“How much did Joshua eat at Sean’s place?” Matthew suddenly asked.
“Just a..” Yoel’s words trailed off, his heart pounding in his chest. That was close! He nearly mentioned that the boss had had
a bowl of food.
“Just a little bit. He didn’t seem to have much appetite. He looked listless during the meal,” he quickly amended, recovering from his momentary lapse.
Matthew’s Gaze deepened. So, it seemed that Yoel’s assertion last night, that fuskua hal barely touched his food, was also untrue. If Joshua had indeed eaten so little, there would not have been such a besitation.
Cynthia noticed this too.
She fell silent for a moment before posing her question. “Did Joshua instruct you to say that?”
“Eh?” Yoel hesitated, his mind momentarily blank and his heart racing with anxiety,
Recalling the previous night’s incident when Joshua had suddenly crouched down, asking the Captain not to hit him, a hypothesis sprung to Cynthia’s mind. She voiced it to Yoel. “I know Joshua is your boss. Even though he’s somewhat childish at the moment, you still recognize him as such.”
“I have a question for you. If he’s instructed you not to answer, then you may choose to remain silent. However, if I’m wrong. please correct me,” Cynthia added. This content © Nôv/elDr(a)m/a.Org.
Yoel resigned himself to his fate. “Go aliead.”
“Did Joshua eat both lunch and dinner yesterday? The statement you made before you left was that at his instructions?” Cynthia asked, cutting straight to the point.
Yorl fell silent. Indeed. Nothing could escape Ms. Yates‘ notice. After about half a rminate of waiting, with no intention of speaking from Yoel’s end, Cynllida already had her confirmationi.
