Chapter 8
Chapter 8
Vanilla
I coughed while trying to open my eyes. “Oh, what happened?”
It was hard for me to open my eyes as if it was half glued. I felt numb all over my body, I was hardly
breathing and couldn’t move my arms up.
I felt big hands lifting me up in bridal style and in less than a minute, all my body was under very cold
water; I flinched and screamed, “Oh my god!”
I then hear a tender voice say, “Keep calm Vanilla. You have a fever but you will be okay now.”
I tightened my grip on the wall, trying to use my nails but I couldn’t stand anymore. “Here, wrap your
arms around my neck.” Yes, it was Dave talking to me. My vision was a blur but my ears didn’t deceive
me. He was holding me tightly in his strong arms.
I couldn’t tell why I felt so depressed and frustrated all of sudden. “It means that was a dream?” I asked
him in a whisper.
He carried me again gently out to the bed and ignored my words.
I managed to open my eyes and stared at him as if I was dead and came back to life again. “Was it a
nightmare?!” I coughed, asking him. It was so obvious how sick I was and I couldn’t remember anything
happening, except what he said to me.
He pulled out a towel and moved all over my body then covered me with a blanket. That’s when I
realized that I was totally naked. “What happened, daddy?” I blinked in curiosity.
He choked and gasped, “Daddy?! What do you mean? You mean dad!”
What?! How long have I been sleeping with my fever?
“Dave! I mean dad. How long have I been laying here?” I tried to adjust my back against the bed’s
headboard.
He placed his hand on my forehead and sighed. “Three days Vanilla.”
“What?! Three days and I didn’t tell you that I want…” I paused when I realized that it meant I didn’t tell
him how much I wanted him and that means he didn’t say he wanted me too.
It was a bad feeling and good feeling as well. It was a relief for me to know that he didn’t say he wanted
to keep me and keep my mother at the same time. However, it was bad because it meant I was only
brave and courageous in my nightmare.
I nodded, “Yes, okay. And how long have you been next to me? Where’s my mom by the way?” I
searched the room to find myself in Dave and mom’s room already.
He sat next to me in bed and frowned. “She has been out of town for two days now and I have been
awake, taking care of you for three days.” He said gently, glaring at me.
I tried to process what he just said to me. “You have been up next to me for three days instead of my
mom?!” I wasn’t asking him though because she always does that. He was always the one who cared
about me even though he was a busy man.
I nodded and smirked. “Then that'd explain why I’m in your bed.”
He pulled me down to lay on his chest, “You are my daughter, remember? I love you more than anyone
else.” Contentt bel0ngs to N0ve/lDrâ/ma.O(r)g!
“More than my mother?” I blurted out asking him.
I wanted to know that it wasn’t because of the fever. I was deadly curious about that.
He chuckled lightly and moved his fingers through my hair. “More than my life. More than myself. More
than your mother,” he whispered in my ear.
I closed my eyes and pressed my head more to his chest, feeling relieved. I wrapped my arm around
his waist. “You should let me have a boyfriend, dad. I think I’m falling for you,” I said and fell asleep
after that.
Maybe I lost my consciousness again or maybe I was exhausted because of the medicines. I couldn’t
know but I was sure about only one thing; That being in a fever was like being under the influence of
alcohol. It gave me the courage to confess my hidden feelings to him.
I woke up later to find myself wearing shorts, sleeping next to Dave who was deep in sleep. I noticed
that he was squirming in bed and suffering to breathe as if he was suffocating. He was sweating a lot
and I thought he caught flu or fever for being close to me for those days.
But when I leaned closer to his face to wipe his sweat, I heard him whispering, “Vanilla, I love you so
much. Don’t leave me please.”
I was shocked and didn't try to wake him up. I snuggled to his chest and went back to sleep. He was
just in the middle of a nightmare or maybe a strong dream and that's why he was sweating. But if I tried
to wake him that means he will know what I have heard.
I figured out that I wasn't ready yet for that and maybe he wasn't ready either.
