Chapter 34 Two Escorts
She felt relieved.
Jacob did not immediately notice that Arthur was coming, and before he could feel it, his shoulder was being clenched by a hand so hard that he felt a shock of pain. At once he released his grip on Lucia.
Arthur quickly put his other hand around Lucia’s waist and brought her back to him. His eyes grew as sharp as an eagle when he saw her wrist, which had been pinched by Jacob and turned red. He tightened his grip on Jacob’s shoulder, and for a moment Jacob bent down with pain.
Arthur suddenly released Jacob before he could begin to struggle. Jacob lost his support and took two defenseless steps, barely falling. When he got back on his feet, he saw Arthur, who was protecting Lucia, staring at him with angry eyes.
Jacob glared at Arthur’s hands around Lucia’s waist, and gave him a hard laugh, which was very gross, and said sarcastically.
“The escort showed up so soon?”
But there was no response because Arthur had already turned his attention back to Lucia. He took her hand and dabbed the red marks on her wrist with his thumb, pity written in his eyes.
“It doesn’t hurt very much.” Looking into Arthur’s worried eyes, Lucia would be lying if she said she was not moved.
“You sure?” Arthur glared at Lucia, disliking her bravado. Then he said, “However, it was returned.”
Arthur had always been like that. The first thing he would do when someone around him or himself was hurt was to give back to the other party twice as much! No mercy.
Hearing this, Lucia smiled at Arthur. It turned out that there were some moments when Arthur would be narrow-minded, like when she got hurt.
The two of them stared at each other, and even the dullest observer could see the emotion that was flowing freely in their eyes, and Jacob’s inane flame burst into flames.
Jacob was thinking of the worst thing he could say, but a voice behind him forced him to swallow it.
“Mr. Taylor, you seem very interested in my executive…”
Jacob looked around and saw Eduard walking slowly behind him, smiling, but not really smiling.
Why was he joining?
Eduard was more difficult for Jacob to deal with than Arthur. Branch of Davonnis managed by Arthur had only been developed in Athegate in recent years. Jacob did not know him very well. The only time they had dealt with each other was in that “unhappy” business two years before.
But Eduard was different. Eduard was a native of the city, and he was deeply rooted in Athegate. It was said that he has dealings with the underworld. Jacob was really afraid of him.
While Jacob was weighing his priorities, Eduard had come to Arthur and Lucia. He did not miss the intimacy between Arthur and Lucia, and he also saw the red marks on Lucia’s hand.
“Mr. Taylor, isn’t that very ungracious of you?” Eduard’s eyes grew darker, and he stared at Jacob, his words were harsh and mean. This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org: ©.
“Ungracious?” Jacob wanted to go, but it would have been humiliating for him to do so, so he continued with a cold snort of indifference, “You know Lucia’s my ex-wife, right? You really didn’t know about that thing she did five years ago?”
Jacob was mocking the fact that the two men in front of him were protecting a woman who was nothing more than a piece of junk he threw away.
Lucia frowned slightly at Jacob’s words. Arthur had been looking at her, so naturally, he immediately noticed her displeasure. He turned his head slightly and said something quietly before Eduard could respond.
“Jacob, I think the JTP Group was formerly the Webbex Group, right?”
Jacob had a dark look on his face. He hated it to be mentioned!
Seeing Jacob’s expression change, Arthur sneered and continued, “Webbex Group paved the way for you to be where you are today.”
Arthur was right. If it were not for the incident five years ago, Jacob might just be a helper around Lucia. Even if he kept the identity of her husband, Webbex Group was still the Webb’s
“That’s right!” Eduard, of course, knew that this was a thorn in Jacob’s side. “Where would you be if it wasn’t for Lucia? Farming in the countryside? Or working for someone in a company?”
Jacob could not give vent to the anger he was now filled with, but he could only get some bargains by words.
“Well, Lucia was the one who should be grateful. She was the one who wronged me. I took over Webbex Group according to Eric’s will. If he had given Webbex Group to Lucia, would Webbex Group be as brilliant as it is today?”
When Lucia heard this, she frowned even more. She nudged Arthur’s protection and stepped forward, staring fearlessly at Jacob. She had to say it.
“Jacob, did you think that if I kept quiet, you’d be able to call black white?”
Lucia was finally willing to talk to him, although he didn’t like her words, but Jacob couldn’t help but fixed his eyes on her.
“What happened five years ago may seem confusing to others, but we both know what really happened. Moreover, it is not untraceable to find out what happened. Since I’m not going to mention it now, you should keep it to yourself, lest one day you talk too much and spill the truth.”
Lucia stared at Jacob and spoke every word. Originally, Lucia really didn’t care to speak a word to Jacob. She just didn’t want to see Arthur or even Eduard standing in front of her. It was pointless for them to go toe-to-toe with Jacob because she was the only one who really had a say.
Lucia’s words made Jacob’s expression change, especially when he heard her say, “It’s not Lucia’s words that made Jacob’s face change, especially when he heard her say, “It’s not a dead end to find out what happened.” Could Lucia have found something?
Jacob’s guilty expression changes were seen by the three of them, especially Eduard, who did not know the truth, has a new understanding of Lucia’s affair five years ago.
Arthur felt sorry for Lucia. He knew that Lucia would not have provoked Jacob until she had figured out how to prove her innocence. Now he heard her retelling the story of five years in Jacob’s presence, even though her words were loud.
Arthur put his hand around Lucia’s waist and put it in front of him without hesitation. Then he whispered in her ear.
“Lucia, don’t bother talking to people like that. Let’s go home.”
Winning or losing an argument was not Arthur’s concern. All he ever cared about was Lucia’s feelings.
Lucia also wanted to leave. She looked at Eduard and saw Eduard nodding his head to show his acquiescence. Then she turned and leaned into Arthur’s arms and whispered.
“Okay. Let’s go home.”
Lucia felt uncomfortable even saying one more word to Jacob.
When Lucia responded, Arthur walked to the entrance with her in his arms without a word. They seemed to be very close, especially with Arthur’s arm around Lucia’s waist in a protective posture.
Jacob hated to see it. He knew that pestering Lucia would do him no good, but he couldn’t help but rush to tear the two of them apart. But Jacob only took one step forward and when Eduard stopped him.
“Mr. Taylor, Webbex Group already belongs to you. Don’t push your luck.”
