Chapter Two
A New Life In Flames Lily's POV
I looked around at the other girls as we stood at the foot of Blackwell Hills.
It was odd that none of them seemed to be fearing for their lives; or if they were, they were good at
hiding it.
They stood in a group and wondered what kind of girl the Lycan King would like.
They pondered if he would go for someone who was slim, who had blue eyes or maybe had brown hair.
There's no way that any of them truly believed that the Lycan King had the capacity to love, right? He
was a monster—a killer. He had no heart. This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
I continued to watch as they twirled their curled hair and showed off their expensive dresses.
They all looked like modern princesses and it was like they forgot that it wasn't Prince Charming that
lived at the top of those hills. “As if the Lycan King would choose any of their sorry asses”
A girl sneered.
I looked over my shoulder and saw a pretty blonde girl standing next to me. Her hot pink dress hugged
her body tightly and stopped at the middle of her thighs. Her striking blue eyes met mine and she
cocked her head to the side. “And who might you be?” “My name is Lily”
I gave her a warm smile. “What a sweet name”
She returned the smile, but it didn't feel genuine and was void of any warmth. “I'm Anny. How come I
haven't seen you before? Don't you go to Silvercoat High?” “I do but only on certain days.
I take hybrid courses, so some of them are online”
“Wow, you must be really smart!” Anny’s voice was way too enthusiastic and borderline sarcastic. “I bet
you're from the Radiant Moonlight pack—literally everyone there is like a genius nerd or something”
I shook my head. “No, my home is with the Blue Moon Pack”
The smile on her face quickly evaporated. “Oh... Cool!” Anny tossed her blonde hair and walked away
from me.
Thank the Goddess... “Alright, alright, ladies”
A powerful voice beckoned to us from the hill s gates. “The Lycan King doesn't appreciate tardiness, so
I need to make this announcement quick”
A tall, lean, and handsome man stood at the gates. His hair was a striking blonde and against the sun's
rays, I saw hints of orange and red. “My name is Alpha Leo of the Night Walker Pack”
“As you all know, you're here to embark on a life-changing journey; one that will put your wits, strength,
and will-power to the test”
Why was he speaking as if becoming the Lycan King’s maids was something honorable? Is this his sick
way of trying to get us hyped up for something that could get us killed? “Today, you all will be serving
your packs by serving the Lycan King”
The reminder silenced the crowd as the air around us became cold. “Unfortunately, there's not much
practical advice I can give you other than to be careful.
Trust your instincts. Don't talk back, only speak when spoken to, and don't assume that you're
important to him- because you're not”
“The Lycan King is a volatile, easily irritable, and merciless individual”
Alpha Leo continued. "Make sure the Lycan King is satisfied in every area you can imagine—you're all
18 and older; f'm sure you know what I mean in that regard”
I felt my cheeks get hot but I quickly shook my head. “Just kiss his ass, stay out of his way, and
hopefully, you'll all make it out alive”
As Alpha Leo finished his lecture, the guards on either side of him opened the dark wooden gates that
concealed the way up the hill. My mom rushed towards me and pulled me into her arms tightly.
It hurt my heart to know that this was going to be the last time that I'd feel her affections. “I pray to the
Moon Goddess that I'll get to see you again, my flower”
She tried hard to hold in her tears. “I love you”
I inhaled her scent and memorized her touch before leaving to follow the group of girls up the hill.
I looked back and met my parents’ sad eyes. My fate was sealed as the gate behind us closed.
I took in a deep breath and walked forward.
I remember the forests that surrounded the Blue Moon Pack and how they were filled with life. Ducks
would swim in the ponds, birds chirped all day, foxes would frolic in the flower fields, and even deer
would occasionally greet us. But these forests were dark, burned to a crisp, and it seemed like there
had been no sign of life in these parts for some time.
There wasn't a single flower that sprouted from the ground—not even the stubborn dandelion weeds.
Bones littered the ground but every once in a while, we'd stumble across a mangled body.
It made me sad to think that these people would never get a proper burial. As we got further up the
path, we soon came across a large figure that was hunched over with its back turned towards us.
“What is that thing?” “What if it eats us?"
“It has to be some kind of monster!” “Everybody, shut up!’ A girl’s voice was louder than it should’ve
been.
In an instant, the creature turned around and glared at us.
It was like staring at a dog that was a hundred times the size of a regular one.
It also had three heads, all snarling and ready to snap.
L remember reading about something like this in my English class and had three heads-just like this
one. Cerberus, I think it was its name. As if it heard my thoughts, the monster-sized dog perked its
head up.
It took a few sniffs and then turned back around as it began to walk up the hill.
It looked back at us—specifically, me. “I think it wants us to follow it..”
I said out loud.
The other girls looked at me like I had gone crazy.
They all linked arms and pushed me to the front since I was the one that suggested the idea. As we got
close to the castle, the monster dog slammed its body into the iron gates and escorted us to the doors.
I scolded myself inwardly as my heart began to pound like mad.
This is it...
The large oak doors of the castle flung open, and on the other side was a large wolf with a dark red
coat.
Its eyes were glowing an almost blinding orange as it stood on its back legs.
Is this the Lycan King? A howling sound tore through the air and pulled me from my thoughts, but it
didn't come from in front of me.
L looked beside me as one of the girls had shredded her dress to shift into her werewolf form. She bore
her teeth and was ready to pounce on the Lycan King.
It was then that a stream of fire consumed the wolf next to me. Her howls of agony and the smell of
burning flesh and fur were forever ingrained in my mind and senses.
The girls around me fled as their screams filled the air. And I would've followed but I was too scared to
make another move.
Instead, I stood there and observed the creature before me-it had to have been the Lycan King. His
dark red coat was like a symbol of those he had slaughtered; a reminder of his thirst for blood. His
orange eyes bore into mine and it took me a second too long to tear my gaze away. While I didn't think
of him as a true king, I got on my knees and bowed my head to show respect. Goddess, protect me!
When I looked back up, I saw that the Lycan King had disappeared. As the wooden doors to the main
palace began to close, a low growl reverberated from within. “Leave me alone!”
