Chapter 24 Save My Child

Lenora quickly closed her eyes, pretending to be asleep.

Don't see me, don't see me, don't see me... She silently repeated in her heart.

Yet, her body was subtly trembling, revealing her emotions beyond any doubt.

The footsteps of the man were getting closer and closer.

He walked toward the bed.

Lenora's heart leapt into her throat.

Suddenly, a chill ran through her body as the blanket was lifted off.

Startled, Lenora froze in place. Her eyes were tightly shut, her legs stiffened, and she silently repeated to herself, I am sleeping, I am sleeping. As long as I can't see his face, he won't kill me.

"I know you're awake. Open your eyes and look at me, or else face the consequences." The man whispered softly into her ear, his breath cool against her skin.

Lenora's mind went blank. She opened her eyes in fear, her voice trembling as she said, "I'm opening my eyes, please don't kill me, please don't kill-

In the middle of her sentence, she clearly saw the man's face before her.

It was none other than Zachary.

Lenora's expression completely froze, her face showing a mix of fear, confusion, and a touch of embarrassment.

She forgot that Zachary was still at home, and with the mansion's strict security, there was no way anyone could break in.

Lenora blinked. "Why are you here?"

"There's thunder outside. I was

our after their marriage that. Worried you might not be able to sleep." Zachary only found

Lenora pursed her lips, "I'm not having trouble sleeping."

"Oh? Really?"

"Really." Lenora firmly replied.

"Then, should I leave now?" Zachary made a move to stand up from the bed.

Lenora stiffened all over and opened her mouth, but no words came out. 22%

She rolled over, facing inward, and muttered under her breath, "Leave if you want to."

The sound of departing footsteps echoed from behind as the door swung open and closed.

He really left. Tears welled in Lenora's eyes.

She sniffed. I knew it. Zachary doesn't really care about me. He's just putting up an act. If that's the case, why did he bother to come? Why did he give me hope only to let me down? Although, isn't Zachary always like this? "You wanted me to leave, didn't you? Why are you crying now?" A voice echoed in Lenora's ear, causing her to stiffen.

She abruptly turned around and found Zachary standing by the bed. "You... You didn't leave?"

"I didn't leave." Zachary sat on the edge of the bed, turning to lie down.

He reached out and gently patted Lenora's shoulder. "All right, go to sleep. I'll stay here with you. Once you're asleep, I'll leave."

Lenora gave a noncommittal, "Mhm." Oh Zachary, why must you be this way? You'll treat me harshly then nicely. I know his tenderness is like arsenic, poisoning me to the marrow, yet I can't bring myself to push him away. Eventually, she fell asleep.

The next day, Lenora woke up to find Zachary was no longer by her side. The doors and windows were tightly shut, as if Zachary had never been there at all.

After washing herself, Lenora had breakfast and headed to the office. She spent half the day engrossed in work before finally making her way to the photography studio in the afternoon.

After a day of adjustment, the shooting speed noticeably increased, and Susanna gradually hit her stride.

During the break, Fiona showed Lenora some photos she had taken that day with her

camera.

Once the venue was reorganized, the shooting resumed.

Under the spotlight, Susanna, with her exquisite makeup and styling, was undeniably breathtakingly beautiful. Even Lenora had to admit she was somewhat dazzled by Susanna.

Alas, the shooting was over, and everyone was packing to leave.

Lenora stepped forward, joining Fiona to examine the photos in the camera.

Susanna also came over to take a look together.

Yelena called out, "Susanna, guess who's here?" 22%

Susanna looked up. joyfully exclaiming, "Zack!"

Zachary strode over, his expression suddenly changing. "Watch out!"

Upon hearing the sound, Lenora looked up, only to realize that she had been pushed forcefully. Bang!

The shelf beside her crashed to the ground, creating a thunderous noise.

Lenora stumbled and fell to the ground, feeling a sharp, bone-piercing pain radiating from

her ankle.

"Are you hurt?" Zachary asked, holding Susanna with concern.

"Zack, you scared me to death. Thank goodness you arrived in time and picked me up. If you hadn't pulled me just now, I would have definitely been hit." Susanna leaned against Zachary," her face filled with fear.

"That was close. The shelf was just a few centimeters away from you. Thankfully, Mr. Fuller was quick to react." Yelena stepped forward and said, "We really owe Mr. Fuller a big thank you. Without him, you would have definitely been injured, Susanna." The scene before Lenora stung her.

She was so upset she couldn't even feel the pain in her ankle. In his eyes, there is only Susanna. All he could see is Susanna.

What hurt Lenora the most was not Zachary's concern for Susanna, but the push Zachary gave her.

That push placed her in danger.

He simply didn't care about my safety. His only concern is Susanna. He would even let me suffer or die in place of Susanna. However, Zachary, if you're so fond of Susanna, why did you come last night? Why is it that every time my wounds are about to heal, a knife is thrust into my heart? Fiona watched in disbelief as the rack crashed down in front of her. The loud noise had left her stunned. Snapping back to reality, she quickly put down her camera to help Lenora. "Nora, are you okay?"

A slight movement of Lenora's ankle brought a piercing pain to her as if millions of ants were gnawing at her lower abdomen, causing a dull ache.

Lenora suddenly felt something was wrong. She grabbed Fiona's hard, struggling to say, "Fifi, take me to the hospital quickly!"

Only then did Zachary notice Lenora sitting on the ground. His face changed immediately, and he rushed over to pick her up. "Nora, are you okay? I'll take you to the hospital."

At that moment, Lenora couldn't care less about anything else. Grasping his arm, she said weakly. "Hurry!"

The pain in Lenora's abdomen was becoming increasingly evident, a look of panic and agony etched on Lenora's face. My child! I must protect my child!

Zachary held Lenora tightly, quickly getting into the car. He urgently told the driver, "Quick! Take us to the nearest hospital immediately!"

Without uttering another word, the driver immediately started the car and drove off.

Lenora leaned into Zachary's embrace, her consciousness gradually blurring.

Zachary anxiously whispered in her ear, "Nora? Nora, don't fall asleep. We're almost at the hospital."

"Mmm." Lenora vaguely heard it, forcing herself to stay conscious.

In a daze, Lenora was rushed to the emergency room. Weakly, she pleaded with the doctor. "Doctor, please save my child. I beg you, you must save my child."

"Don't worry, we will do everything in our power to save them," said the doctor.

After receiving the doctor's response, Lenora breathed a sigh of relief. However, she didn't. forget to add, "The man outside is my ex-husband. Please don't tell him about my pregnancy."

The doctor was surprised. The man outside seems quite concerned about her. I initially thought they were a young married couple, but who would have thought they were already divorced? Well, patients have their own privacy. Since she is unwilling to share, it's only natural I keep her secret. Although, why does the man outside look somewhat familiar?
