It caused another uproar.
On all major websites, the top ten hot searches were all about the Riley Group, Drake, and Edwin. For
a moment, they were very popular.
There were many negative comments about Edwin.
Sophia logged onto her social media account and posted a message: "I know all of you are concerned
about my husband's health. He has not completely recovered from his life-threatening condition yet, but
don't worry, I believe he will be fine. Secondly, I want to say that choosing Edwin was my idea.
Currently the Riley Group can still afford him; everyone goes through difficult times in their lives but
with effort they will make it eventually. Thank you for your concern."
Many netizens stopped gossiping after reading this post - Since Drake's wife had personally spoken
out on his behalf; what else could they possibly care about?
Many netizens believed that the Riley Group still had money; if not, how could they afford to pay so
much?
Instantly the stock prices skyrocketed.
Bard understood what was happening and said incredulously, "Sophia! You're so amazing! You
managed to reap all of the benefits!"
Sophia smiled at him, "Bard, learn from me as a manager!"
Bard nodded heavily.
Edwin had been looking at his phone all along when he suddenly said, "Sophia! Look online!"
Sophia didn't know what had happened yet and looked over at her phone where she saw the latest
news trending.
"The National Research Institute which has developed a new product will collaborate with the Riley
Group."
Sophia instinctively looked towards Charles, "Charles..."
Charles calmly replied: "Sophia, Drake got into trouble recently and there isn't much we can do to help
him out right now but I just communicated with our superiors who are willing to work together with the
Riley Group."
Normally these research products would be self-produced or sold exclusively by themselves so this
was their first time collaborating with an enterprise group.
This collaboration instantly made people think that the Riley Group was particularly powerful.
"Thank you, Charles!"
"Don't mention it, Sophia."
Sophia nodded.
Because of these two things, not only did the Riley Group survive, but it was even more brilliant than
before.
Those who envied and harmed Drake gritted their teeth in hatred.
Travis frowned and said, "Sophia, some people might get jealous of you and try to harm you like what
they did to Drake, so you have to be careful!"
Sophia nodded, "Travis, Charles, Edwin, Bard, I know you were supposed to leave today, but because
of Drake's incident, you stayed here a little longer. I think you should leave first, I can handle things
alone!"
Bard said angrily, "Sophia, we won't leave!"
"Bard, listen to me, I know you're worried about me, but if you guys stay here, they won't take action
and I can't catch the culprits that harm Drake."
They were silent after hearing it.
Sophia looked at them, "Well, if you are still worried, how about letting Edwin stay with me?"
Bard asked in confusion, "Why Edwin?"
Sophia explained, "Travis and Helena have a child, I don't want him to have an accident; Charles' job
doesn't allow him to stay here for too long. Bard, you should go back to take care of the family
business. So Edwin is the most suitable."
Sophia did have her reasons for saying that, and everyone nodded.
After sending them away, she went to the hospital.
It had been almost twenty hours and Drake was still unconscious.
Sophia went to the dean.
Sophia said frankly, "Sir, just tell me the truth, how is Drake doing now?"
The dean sighed, "Since you came here, Mrs. Riley, I won't hide it from you. To be honest, after the
analysis of our hospital and the higher-level hospital, the chance of Mr. Riley surviving is not high!"
Sophia's body wobbled a bit, but she pulled herself together quickly.
"You're lying, right?"
The dean shook his head. "We understand how you feel. No one wants to see something like this
happen, but we have done everything we can. Losing someone as talented as Mr. Riley is
heartbreaking for us, but..."
Sophia took a while before speaking up. "If I hadn't come here, when were you planning on telling me?"
The dean looked at her and said, "Mrs. Riley, please don't be too hasty. I was planning on telling you
later..."
Before he could finish his sentence, Sophia stood up in a hurry and said, "Not in a hurry? How can I not
be in a hurry. That's my husband! The man who I will stay with for the rest of my life! If he's like that
now, how can I settle down?"
"I know," the dean replied calmly. "But isn't this the result we came to after discussing it?"
"What result? That you still couldn't save him? If you say it's impossible, then I'll find another way! If
Drake has any chance of survival but doesn't make it because of your delay, then you're responsible for
it!" Sophia didn't want to argue with him anymore; she just hated his attitude.
The dean tried to calm her down by saying, "Yes, I understand how you feel."
Sophia quickly interrupted him by raising her hand, "I've heard enough of these words! Alright then,
since there's no hope here, then I will take him back."
With that being said, Sophia turned around and left.
"Wait, Mrs. Riley!" The dean shouted out.
Sophia didn't stop walking.
The dean quickly spoke up again: "Mrs. Riley, there's still hope. My hospital's doctors cannot save
Drake, but someone else can."
Sophia turned around and looked at him asking,"What do you mean?"
Taking a deep breath, the dean continued speaking, "My friend specializes in medicine and achieves a
lot in medical industry. Yet I am not 100 percent sure if he can cure Drake."
"Furthermore, he has a short temper. I can give you his contact information, but whether or not he
comes depends on your ability."
Chapter 716 Does Drake Still Have A Chance?
As he finished speaking, the dean handed over a business card to Sophia. Sophia was stunned for a
moment.
"The best we can do is try to keep Mr. Riley alive, the rest is up to you," said the dean.
"Okay, I understand," Sophia put away the business card in her hand.
She returned to the door of the operating room where Emma and Laura were waiting for her. "What did
the dean say? Is there any hope for Drake?" they asked.
Sophia recounted what she had heard in the dean's office and who she was going to see. "Are you
talking about Brandon Glass?" Emma asked.
Sophia furrowed her brow, "Mom, do you know him?"
Emma looked around and whispered, "Not only do I know him well, he was also my first love."
Sophia thought it was too coincidental. Laura gave Emma a meaningful look while she pondered what
to do next. "You go ahead and see him but don't tell Baron that it's him you're seeing or he will strongly
oppose it," suggested Emma.
Sophia wasn't worried about that; as long as she talked to Baron, he would listen to her. What
concerned her most now was whether Brandon would agree to treat Drake or not.
After knowing Brandon was Emma's first love, Sophia lost confidence in persuading Brandon into
treating Drake.
"Mom, have you ever had any conflicts with Dr. Glass? I mean really big ones!"
Emma sighed helplessly before saying, "Does falling in love with your dad behind his back count?"
Sophia almost fainted on hearing this revelation from her mother-in-law!
"I never thought I'd fall out of love with him... We haven't seen each other since then, so maybe you
should not tell him Drake is my son?" suggested Emma.
"Wait. You and Dr. Glass share the same surname."
Emma said helplessly, "Sophia, you're too sensitive. Yes, Brandon was originally my brother; he was
adopted by my parents and not related to me by blood. Although he has a strange temper, he's really
talented and I gradually became attracted to him. But our relationship was destined not to work out so I
started distancing myself from him until I met your father and ended up where we are today."
When Sophia left, her scalp still tingled.
Was everything predetermined? Was Drake's life meant to be lost?
But they had to try anyway. What if it worked out?
With Paul's help, Sophia drove for four hours before arriving at their destination with Brandon living in
the deep mountains surrounded by trees. His house was built in the center of it all giving off an air of
seclusion and mystery.
A woman who had just returned from gathering herbs looked at them curiously and asked,"Who are
you guys? Are you here looking for my dad?"
Dad?
Sophia turned her head towards the woman who looked about twenty years old with delicate features
that gave off a sense of otherworldliness as if she lived apart from society.
"Your dad is Brandon?" Sophia asked tentatively.
"Yes! You guys really came looking for my dad huh? Oh right! You want him to treat someone. But
please be mentally prepared. He might make things difficult or make an offer."
Sophia didn't care about any of that though; what she cared about most was whether Brandon would
firmly say no when he found out who needed treatment.
"It's okay; can we see your dad now?"
"Sure! Follow me!" Têxt © NôvelDrama.Org.
It turned out that Brandon wasn't there yet; they had to go deeper into the forest before finding him. If
not for their modern clothing they could have been mistaken as travelers from ancient times.
On the way there Emmie Glass introduced herself. Surprisingly Sophia who asked,"Is your name
inspired by missing someone?"
The girl looked at her in surprise. "Sis, how did you know? No one who has come here has ever asked
me that question before."
Sophia could tell from the girl's name that Brandon still loved Emma after all these years.
Sophia wanted to go back now.
"Sis, what's wrong with you?"
Emmie looked at her strangely.
Sophia regained her composure. "Nothing, I was just wondering what kind of woman could make Dr.
Glass remember her for so long."
Emmie thought carefully. "I don't know either. Every time my dad talks about it, I'm curious too, but
when I ask him further, he just yells at me and eventually I stop asking."
Sophia deliberately asked, "Your name is Emmie. How about your mother? Why doesn't he want you to
know what she looks like?"
"I'm not his biological daughter and few people knows this," Emmie said.
Sophia had gotten all the information she wanted out of Emmie and followed her inside.
When they arrived, Sophia saw Brandon squatting on the ground, seemingly drying herbs.
Without even turning his head, he asked, "Who's here, Emmie?"
Emmie glanced at Sophia; both Paul and Sophia stayed put while Emmie walked a few steps forward.
"Dad, someone came looking for you to treat their illness."
"No! I'm not in the mood today!" Brandon refused without hesitation.
Emmie gave a helpless look towards Sophia; she didn't know why but she really liked this lady so she
said a few words more than usual.
"Dad, they came from far away just to find you. Please help them out!"
"Why should I see them if the patient didn't come along?"
Sophia was surprised; Brandon hadn't even bothered looking their way, yet he already knew there
wasn't any patient with them – he was truly an extraordinary man!
"Wait a minute," He continued speaking without turning around, "Emmie, I've never heard you say so
much for anyone else. Tell me, what did they give you?"
Emmie explained, "They didn't give me anything! It's just that this lady guessed my name as being
related to your missing someone."
Brandon turned around then...
The moment when Sophia locked eyes with him, she was stunned – Despite soaking himself in
traditional medicine for years, he still looked young... even younger than Baron.
"It's you!"
Sophia froze for a moment at Brandon's words.
"Mr. Glass, do you know me?"
"Leave. I won't treat any of you, even if you're dying. Don't ever come to my place again!" After saying
that, Brandon started to kick them out.
