Chapter 21 - Friends
Jada didn't even flinch when Lyken raised his voice at her. Instead, she smiled at him mockingly before closing their distance.
"Don't you think you're being too judgmental, Lyken?" she asked casually, even reaching out to fix his collar. "As far as I know, neither you nor Kristoff is my boyfriend, so I'm not playing with anyone," she stated before walking past him, and heading to her bedroom.
He stopped her by the arm and made her face him. He knew she was hurt by what he did. But when she looked at him, it was he who got scared.
This is the first time he saw Jada looking at him like she did. First time since they'd met. She was glaring at him and it felt cold as ice.
"You're disgusting!" Lyken sneered.
Flicking her hair, she looked straight into his eyes, "Really? Then don't touch me!"
Lyken can see the bitterness in Jada's smile and her eyes were blazing with anger. He let go of her slowly, lowering his gaze as he couldn't stand the way she looked at him. Despite that, Lyken didn't totally back down, "I think it was better we broke up," he stated, rubbing his chin, "Because I can't imagine being with a woman like you!"
Jada let out a short but sarcastic laugh. Then she turned around. Still smiling but her gaze was as sharp as a knife, piercing through him.
"Don't push me to my limits, Mr. Fontanilla. You won't like that side of me!"
She turned her back while shaking her head. But then she stopped and turned to face him again as if she forgot to say something.
"And by the way, I never regret breaking up with you, don't overdo it Lyken," she smiled sweetly and her voice came out naturally.
Jada then went straight to her room while Lyken was rooted in his place. After everything she said so far, that last statement was the most heartbreaking. Of course, she really won't regret breaking up with him after what she saw. Who wouldn't when everything she saw scarred her heart?
Someone tapped Lyken's shoulder, it was Kobe. Then Honey hugged him, she was crying. He knew she's hurt seeing her best friend like this. It was the same for him. Back then, Lyken made a promise that he'll help her look after Jada, as she promised her parents. He also promised that he will love her best friend and never hurt her.
He knows she's frustrated seeing all this happen to them. So now, he doesn't know what to do anymore. And whether he likes it or not, he has to do something to end this. Inside her room, Jada wanted to laugh and cry at the same time after her confrontation with Lyken. She can't even believe it happened.
She wanted to laugh as she saw the fear in Lyken's eyes whenever she opened her mouth. He was scared whenever she refuted everything he told her.
But at the same time, Jada wanted to cry, because she felt affected by everything he said to her. It felt true and insulting.
'No Jada! Don't be overdramatic!'
She inhaled and exhaled several times to calm herself. After a while, she stood up to get a glass of water, as her throat started to feel dry.
Jada headed straight to the kitchen, poured herself a glass of water, and headed back to her room. On her way, Robin called and motioned for her to sit next to him.
"I thought you guys went home," looking at her friends, one by one. She pulled her feet up and placed the glass on the table after sipping from it.
"Are you okay?" Robin asked as he reached out for her hand. Steve moved next to her as well, placing a hand over her shoulder and giving it a light squeeze.
Jada smiled faintly at them, "Of course, should I feel bad?"
Kobe let out a sigh, "Ja, we're worried about you," he muttered.
She can see the sadness in his eyes, in their eyes. She knew that even their friends were affected by what was happening between her and Lyken.
At times, when she really thinks about it, she wants to stop what she's been doing too. But whenever she sees Lyken, the anger in her heart flares.
Robin pulled her for a hug, he even leaned her head on his shoulder for comfort. Honey moved close to her and held her hand.
"Sis you know we're all here for you, right?" Honey told her, moving her thumb on the back of her palm. Jada nodded without looking at her best friend. "If there's anything you want to tell us or tell me, you can do so. Anytime. We're here to listen," she added.
Jada freed herself from Robin's hug then she looked at them with her forehead creased. Steve, Robin, Honey, Kobe, Ada, and Bambi.
Even if they don't say anything, Jada feels like they already knew something. She believes that Lyken already confessed to them.
"Is there something you guys want to tell me? Something I need to know?" but not one of them responded. "With what you've been telling me these past few days, you seem to know something I don't."Content is © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.
Her friends exchanged glances but still, no one spoke. No one wanted to say anything. They all look like they've been threatened not to say a word.
"It's as if Lyken did something that you don't want to tell me. That I can't know," she continued when they all remained mum. Jada tried hard not to choke on her tears, trying to hold them in the best she could.
She wanted to say they're biased, but she needs to understand their position too. I'm their friend, but so is Lyken. And there's something I haven't been telling them.
Kobe crossed the living room to hug Jada. He only let go of her after a few seconds, along with a lengthy, relieved sigh.
"I'll go ahead and rest," then she stood up and headed straight to her room. She even heard them sigh before she closed the door. Honey even said something but she didn't hear her clearly.
Jada plopped on her bed, lying on her stomach, and she let go of her tears. From how she holds them back in front of her friends, she lets them flow now that she's alone.
She didn't want her friends to see her cry over someone like Lyken. She doesn't want them to see her as someone weak. She doesn't want Lyken to see her like that. She has to be strong. She wants to be strong, at least for herself.
Jada doesn't want to be weak because it might cause her to give in to Lyken easily. She might end up forgiving him for everything he's done, from start to finish. She doesn't want to fall for Lyken Fontanilla over again. She has to stop herself, no matter what. She can't let him hurt her again, ever.
'This will soon be over. This too shall pass.'
