Chapter 100 Cannot Return The Engagement Ring
The veil of night descended, and the lights were just lit.
In a well-decorated restaurant, a blond waiter with blue eyes carried a glass of red wine with one hand and walked through the booth.
“Romanee Conti.”
Amanda nodded and gestured for the waiter to pour the wine.
Iverson said, “Didn’t you say that you would never drink wine again?”
“We can celebrate today, and didn’t you ask me to thank you? Every time I treat you to dinner, you think the place is not good enough.”
“Not good enough? I never said that.”
“Fine, then I know what you meant.” Amanda smiled and took the initiative to raise his glass. “Anyway, let me propose a toast to you. Thank you.”
“Thank me for what?”
Amanda winked at the person on the other end. “Thank you for your hard work and scheming.”
“You don’t sound like you’re praising me.” Iverson raised an eyebrow and clinked his glass with hers. “But that’s the truth.”
“Of course it’s the truth. I’m afraid that the people of the Sean family have already reacted and don’t know how to scold you.”
Who would have thought that Iverson had been the one to plan everything out? Even today’s conclusion had been within his calculations.
Although there was a financial problem with the Sean Group, it had a good reputation in the industry. It was also the original developer for the project of the old city district, so when they participated in the bidding, they first persuaded their competitors to withdraw and indirectly helped Safe Home Real Estate remove some unnecessary obstacles.
During the rest of the journey, the Sean Group would naturally do its best. There were countless competitors who had been privately eliminated by them in various ways.
In the end, only the three companies were left. Olinka had decided that Amanda couldn’t suppress the price, so she decided to use a price war to overthrow Safe Home Real Estate.
Unfortunately, everything had gone according to Iverson’s plan. The Planning Bureau had made a phone call, announcing that the Sean Group had been eliminated and lost the right to participate in the bidding. All their efforts had gone to waste, and they had ended up benefiting someone else.
If it weren’t for Iverson’s confident attitude when they talked about this incident on the weekend, Amanda wouldn’t have been able to connect the dots.
Outside the window, the night was bleak. Under the reflection of the crystal chandelier, the man was more charming, with maturity and wisdom far beyond his age.
He said casually, “Are you sure those two will be able to know I am behind this?”
Amanda came back to her senses. “They can’t, but they’re not the only two people in the Sean Group now.”
“Jake Sean?”
“Yup.”
Amanda took a sip of red wine and slowly cut her food on the plate. “In fact, if Halley Sean is willing to hand over the Sean Group to Jake Sean to manage, there is still a chance of survival, but I bet he is unwilling to do so.”
“What do you think?”
“It has nothing to do with me. I have already sold my shares. In the future, we will mind our own business.”This text is © NôvelDrama/.Org.
Amanda put down her knife and fork and looked at him seriously. “So, you don’t have to test me.”
“I’m just asking casually. I’m not testing you.”
“Really?”
“It’s true. You don’t have to test me.”
Amanda was stunned by the sudden turn of the conversation.
In front of Iverson, she couldn’t figure out what he was thinking. Every time she tried to persuade him with words, he would always see through her. This uncontrollable feeling was both fresh and uneasy for a woman who was used to being strong.
“Give me your hand.”
“Huh?”
Amanda was stunned when she suddenly heard a cold voice from the other end of the line. “What are you doing?”
While she was still in a daze, Iverson grabbed the left side of her hand. The back of his hand was facing upward, revealing a clean and slender knuckle, and a ring inlaid with rubies slowly pushed up her ring finger.
Amanda subconsciously tried to withdraw her hand, but he clenched it so tightly that the ring was pushed all the way to the base of her finger. Only then did Iverson release her hand.
“A gift for you.”
“I can’t accept this.” Amanda was going to take it off but was stopped.
Over the years, she had been studying jewelry and knew that such a high-quality ruby ring was valuable. They hadn’t been together for a long time, so how could she accept such a valuable gift?
“You don’t like it?”
“No, it’s just…”
“Then take it.” Iverson’s eyes turned cold. “There’s no reason to return the engagement ring.”
Amanda’s route of the retreat was cut off with just one sentence. If she refused again, she would look like she was looking for trouble, so she had no choice but to accept it.
She looked at the ring under the light. The ruby at the center was round and crystal clear, with a ring of diamonds embedded around it. It was thick and elegant. The more she looked at it, the more beautiful it was.
“It’s beautiful.”
She smiled. “Since I’ve accepted such a valuable gift, I should at least give you something in return. What do you like?”
“What do you think?”
Iverson stared at her without blinking.
Amanda’s face began to heat up. Pretending that she didn’t understand, she said, “Forget it. I’ll just pick whatever I want.”
…
In the Sean Group.
The light in the president’s office was still on, and there was a pile of torn documents on the floor.
Halley Sean had just slammed the door and left in a huff.
“Miss Fane.” The assistant carefully observed Olinka’s expression. “Mr. Sean is gone. You should go back and rest. No one expected this to happen. You’ve done your best.”
Olinka’s face turned pale. “So, you’re saying that I can’t match up to Amanda even if I try my best?”
“That’s not what I meant.”
“That’s what you mean, right? Weren’t you all discussing this behind my back? Weren’t you all waiting for me to make a fool of myself?”
Olinka stood up and said sarcastically, “Let me tell you, the Sean Group relies on me for its last resort. Do you know what it means? Amanda wants to sell the Sean Group for a good price. I’m the only one who wants it to expand.”
“You won’t understand even if I tell you!”
Olinka grabbed her bag, turned around, and left the office.
In the car, she called Halley Sean.
“Sorry, the number you dialed could not be connected. Please dial again later.”
She dialed three times in a row, but no one answered. In the end, the other side simply turned off his phone.
“Hello? Sherry, it’s me.”
“Olinka, why are you calling me so late at night?”
“Is your brother home?”
“No.” Sherry was confused. “What’s wrong? Did you have a fight?”
“The project hasn’t been signed yet. He’s mad at me. I’m afraid something will happen to him, so I want you to call him to see where he is and make sure he’s safe.”
The person on the other end of the line seemed to be deep in thought. “I know where my brother is.”
“Really?”
“Of course. I am his younger sister. Come and find me. I’ll bring you there.”
Bustling nightclubs were symbols of the prosperity of Ducco.
In the deafening music, a female DJ in a tube top was playing music on the stage. Her pink hair was dancing wildly with the shaking of her head.
In the crowd, Olinka pulled Sherry and shouted at the top of her voice, “Your brother is here? Are you sure?”
“Look for yourself.”
Sherry raised her chin at the booth.
