Chapter 1057 He Is Scared
Rainie kept shaking her head. I don't want to see Sylvester. I don't! That man is far more ruthless than
I'd imagined. I fear I won't be able to take it if he makes any more sharp remarks. No one in this world
can hurt me except him. Even a single word or action from him is enough to leave me utterly
devastated, and I no longer want to humiliate myself by desperately clinging to him. If possible, I never
want to see that man ever again. I wish my memories to be filled only with beautiful moments,
untainted by resentment, anger, hatred, or sorrow.
“No! No way! I'm not going. I won't! Don't force me.”
“Not going?” Mason echoed with a snicker. “Just a few days ago, your brother came to me saying he
was short on cash and needed some funds for turnover. I gave him ten million, and he went to Ackleton
with it. Last night, a casino manager from Ackleton called me. He said your brother lost thirty million,
meaning he owes the casino twenty million. Tsk, tsk. Twenty million. Are you able to pay off his
gambling debt? If you don't pay it off, they'll chop him up and feed him to the fish. Not even a trace of
his bones will be left.”
“Don't say anything more. Please, I'm begging you to stop.” She covered her ears tightly while tears
streamed down her face.
Although that family never provided me warmth or affection, it did once provide me with shelter. Despite
having repaid all my debts to them, old ties are hard to sever. I thought at first that I'd be able to face
them with indifference, but it turns out that I can't. Even if they did deeply hurt me before.
“I'll do it. You want me to plead with Sylvester, don't you? I'll do it, okay? Just spare my brother. Please
spare him.”
He patted her face gently, wiping away the tears that stained her cheeks, and said with a smile, “That's
more like it. As long as you behave, I won't cause any trouble for your family. Dress up nicely and try to
win Sylvester's pity so he'll happily agree to help me through this crisis.”
As she stared blankly at the chandelier above her head, a wistful smile tugged at the corners of her lip.
I thought I'd be free after what happened over a month ago. Alas, reality has shown me that I was too
naive. It wasn't the end after that night, but the beginning of a disaster.
Over in a bedroom at the Shurmer residence, Bailey was leaning against the headboard, talking on the
phone with Artemis.
“Have you arrived in Zaewora?”
“Mm-hmm. I just got off the private jet. How about you? Have you gotten out of bed yet?”
Turning to glance at the blazing sun outside the window, she chuckled and replied, “The sun is up, so Ccontent © exclusive by Nô/vel(D)ra/ma.Org.
it's time to get up.”
“Okay. Get an early start, then. Go and do some exercises in the backyard or the gym. You're so frail.
How are you going to satisfy me when I return?”
She rolled her eyes. There he goes again, talking nonsense after the conversation has barely started.
Seeing that she did not say anything, he did not press her. Instead, he asked, “What are your plans for
today?”
Bailey rolled out of bed, walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, and pulled back the curtains. Smiling,
she answered, “I'm meeting the embroiderer to finalize the wedding dress design.”
He fell silent for a few seconds before finally saying, “Weren't you going to look for Yrina's apprentice?
Yrinasion embroidery is more exquisite than Strassonian embroidery. Since it's your wedding dress, it
has to be the best. Everything must be top-notch. After all, you only get married once in your life.”
She arched her brows and half-jokingly replied, “You might not be able to find her. She's quite the
enigma.”
“That's not a problem. Although Yrinasion embroidery isn't as widespread as Strassonian embroidery,
the technique didn't get passed down to Yrina's apprentice only. As far as I know, there are
embroiderers in Jipsdale skilled in Yrinasion embroidery. I'll send someone to hire them. We should still
go with Yrinasion embroidery for your wedding dress.”
His response amused her. Doesn't it tire him to worry about such trivial matters?
Needless to say, Artemis was not tired at all. In fact, he wished he could take full charge of their
wedding arrangements. However, that could only be pie in the sky. He shouldered so many
responsibilities that he could not even slow down for a moment.
“You've just arrived in Zaewora, so you should go to your accommodation and get some sleep first. I'll
keep an eye on the wedding preparations here in Hallsbay.”
“Okay. I'll hang up now. Take good care of yourself.”
“Okay.”
After ending the call, she gently rubbed her belly as her gaze fell on the sun shining brightly outside.
“It's another beautiful day today, Darling. You must grow well. Let's look forward to the day we shall
meet.”
When Mason arrived with Rainie that night, Karina's bodyguard was already waiting in the parking lot.
Mason got out and greeted her, then followed her into the nightclub.
They took the elevator and soon arrived at the top floor.
“I have some matters to attend to, so I'll be leaving first. Mr. Sylvester is inside. You may go in and see
him,” said the bodyguard. She shot Mason a meaningful glance, signaling that he should hurry up and
bring Rainie inside, then left.
Mason had no idea what Karina was up to, but he could only play along. He held Rainie's arm as they
headed toward the door to the suite.
Instead of turning the doorknob, he slammed on the door.
Even though he could not stand Sylvester, he dared not challenge the latter's authority. That was why
he did not have the audacity to rush in recklessly at that moment.
He gradually lost patience after pounding on the door for some time and receiving no response.
Turning to Rainie, he snapped, “Open the door. Quickly!”
She pressed her lips together, loath to do so. I really don't want to see Sylvester, but there's no way
Mason will let me off the hook. Since I have to face this no matter what, it makes no difference whether
I barge in or not.
Under his sharp gaze, she gripped the doorknob with trembling hands. Turning her wrist gently, she
heard a soft click, and the door opened.
The two people inside, who were sound asleep after the commotion Mason caused, stirred.
Upon opening his eyes, Sylvester reached up and thumped his head lightly. When he was finally fully
awake, he struggled to sit up.
The blanket over him slid down from the movement, and he felt a cold breeze. He looked down
subconsciously and realized he was topless. Then, out of the corner of his eye, he noticed a woman's
face.
Something seemed to explode in his mind, causing his pupils to contract violently. Karina? How is it
her? Why is she in my room? And why is she lying so close to me?
Suddenly, a thought sprang to his mind, and he felt a bone-deep chill as though he had been doused
by a bucket of ice water. D-Did I spend the night with Karina? It can't be. That's impossible.
Fear surged within him, and he felt an instinctive urge to flee.
Just then, Xu Qian happened to wake up. “Sylvester, l-last night, w-we...”
“Nothing happened last night. I was drunk. Perhaps I hit you and knocked you out. Yes, that must be it.
It has to be,” he blurted.
Seeing the panicked look in his eyes, she slowly balled her hands at her sides into fists. He's scared.
Why is he afraid? Is he afraid that because he betrayed Rainie, nothing can ever happen between
them anymore? So, he's still hung up on her? Why?
