“Babe, are you sure Lyra is giving birth already? I thought her due is in a week.” I was still wearing a white floor-length evening gown for my party thrown to me as the new CEO.
Yes, finally, I was the new CEO of Kross Corp., and of course, Grandpa was there as he introduced me to board members, representatives from the corporation worldwide, employees, and our guests.
“Yes, baby. Dad just left. He wasn’t able to say goodbye. You were busy with the guests.” My husband was just jaw-dropping in a black tux. He finally shaved clean, making his jaw line more prominent.
“I’m going with you.”
“This is your party. You can’t leave.” He shook his head.
I knew he would disagree, but I could be persistent if I wanted to get something I wanted. “Well, I’m done meeting some guests. Besides, Grandpa is still here. I can reason out that they can’t say no to me. Watch me.” I walked away from Mykel.
“Baby, what are you doing?”
“Hi. Do you mind if I borrow my grandfather for a minute?” I held Grandpa in his arm while chatting with the South-East Asia representatives.
“Please,” Mr. Xing agreed.
“Excuse me, Grandpa. I need to sit down. My back is killing me.” I pretended to rub my back. “I think maybe because I’ve been standing for too long.”
“Whatever you two are planning, go ahead. Get out of here. I’ll take care of the guests.” Deep inside, I just celebrated.
“Don’t stay long. You also need to rest.”
“Whatever. Get the hell out before I change my mind.”
I grinned like a school girl. “Thank you, Grandpa. Love you.”
As soon as we got out of the door, I pulled up my gown so I could walk faster.
“I don’t know you have that in you, baby?” Mykel was carrying my clutch.
“What? Sometimes I can be a brat, a rebel, and a good girl, a wild woman if I want to be.”
“I will carry you if you’re having back pain.”
I smiled as we reached the car. “Just give me a back rub later.”
“Deal.”
Sax was already in the driver’s seat. “To the hospital?”
“Yes, please.”
In less than thirty minutes, we arrived at the hospital. I bumped into Knox with a minister.
“Is everything okay?”
“Yeah. Now that you both are here let’s go. Lyra is not giving birth now. The doctor said it’s a false alarm or something.”
“Braxton Hicks.”
“Yeah.”
I looked at my husband, amazed. He’d been reading a lot lately. Two nights ago, when I went to the study room, he was cringing as he watched a video on the tv screen. He suddenly shut it off, so I couldn’t watch it myself. He was scared I would be traumatized after watching the woman in natural labor.
We followed Knox to the room.
“Dad, they’re here,” he announced.
“Oh, my God.” My hands were on my mouth as I watched them both waiting for the minister.
“Son, can you stand next to Knox?” Dru asked Mykel.
“Adley, please?” Lyra asked with a bouquet in her hands.
“Of course, It would be my honor.” I stood beside her. Then the ceremony started. I had the bridal flowers and was instantly brought back to how Mykel and I got married in Las Vegas.
They exchanged vows. They seemed prepared for the wedding. My guess was they were planning to marry sooner after Lyra gave birth. I thought this was romantic. Extravagant weddings were overrated. What was important was that you valued your vows and remained loyal to your spouses.
“By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. Dru, you may now kiss your bride.”
They shared their first kiss as man and wife. I wiped my tear that I didn’t know I was there.
I congratulated both of them. “I’m happy for both of you. And you look lovely.” I kissed Lyra on her cheek.
“Sorry, I missed your party.”
“This is the best night, Lyra. I attended my own party, and I witnessed your wedding.”
“Thank you for rushing over here, Adley.”
I hugged Dru. “I wouldn’t miss this.”
“Why did you two rush your wedding?” Mykel asked his father in amusement.
“Her family is old-fashion, and it was my idea to deliver the baby with wedlock. Her parents can’t say anything anymore.”
“Good idea. Well, I will send some wine to the room, but I have to take my wife home, and you two can celebrate your wedding night.” Mykel smiled at his father and stepmother.
“We’ll come back tomorrow.”
“I’m going home, too. Call me if you need anything,” Knox bid goodbye to the newlyweds.
When we were in the elevator, I reminded Mykel. “Do you remember when we first met?”
“You hated my guts. How could I forget the best night of my life? Now she’s standing right next to me, my wife, and the mother of my little pea.”
“Little pea?”
“Better than a peanut.”
I laughed out loud.
“How’re your legs?”
“You should really stop reading books, babe.”
“I’m serious, Adley.”
“I’m fine.”

I was exhausted when we got home. I let Mykel carry me inside the house to our room. I had leg cramps in the middle of my sleep like last week. Mykel explained that it was expected, but I wasn’t even yet in the second trimester. Then we had a disagreement because he called my doctor.
He helped me out on my gown. Then I lay down only in my underwear. He raised my leg and massaged the other. He was fulfilling his promise. He would never miss this moment in his life, as he said to me. He enjoyed being a hands-on husband. Sometimes, I got annoyed, but most of the time, I enjoyed this treatment like a simple massage, foot rub, or bringing some healthy snacks. I was easy to please.
“Thank you.” I ran my fingers through his hair.
“No need to thank me.”
“I do. Did you read something about hair fall during pregnancy?”
He also looked tired. He’d been busy lately at the office, then he went to my office and took me to lunch. When he got home, he still took care of me. I was lucky to have such a thoughtful husband who never got tired of pleasing me.
“After pregnancy, but it will stop a few months after the baby is born. Are you experiencing hair fall?”
“You’re taking this seriously. You also have to take care of yourself if I am terrible at taking care of you, Mykel.” I smiled.
“I’ll be fine.”
“No. We take care of each other. Take off your clothes and come to bed-no more midnight reading and watching videos, Mykel. I’ll be fine. You’ll be the first to know if I feel something uncomfortable.”
He didn’t resist anymore. I thought he felt his exhaustion consuming his body. He yawned after stripping off his clothes. He joined me in bed and pulled me into his arm. He fell asleep before me.
In the morning, I woke ahead of him. After I did yoga, I went to the kitchen. I called Dru about Lyra. She was not yet in labor.
I prepared breakfast. I was just done with a protein shake when I felt arms snaking around my waist.
“You didn’t wake me up.” His voice was still groggy.
“You needed that sleep. How are you feeling?”
“How about you?”
“I asked you, and you answered me with a question.”
“I slept like a baby. How’s our little pea?”
I chuckled. “You should stop calling her that.”
“Her or his? My guess is a girl.”
“I love our baby, whether a girl or a boy. Hungry?”
“I want your shake.”
I poured it into a glass and gave it to him.
“Your shake, baby.” He kissed my neck, then moved his lips and bit my earlobe.
“Uh-huh. That kind of shake.”
“I missed your taste, baby.” He slipped his hands into the band of my shorts and dragged them down my knees.
“Babe, we’re about to have breakfast.” I was already shaking in anticipation. My clit ached for his touch, and I was already spreading my legs wide despite my protest.
“Lean against the island and lift your ass.”
I was already aroused, so I did as he asked.
My hormones were out of control. The last thing I heard was my voice crying out in pleasure as I felt the first touch of the tip of his tongue against my clit. Then he laved me from my forbidden hole down to my most sensitive nub.
“Are you ready?” he asked me, but I didn’t get the chance to answer. Mykel rubbed the tip of his length, coating and spreading my wetness before he plunged into me from behind.
