The Billionaire's Forbidden Longing

Chapter 22 Alexander's Approach

After Allison took off, Yasmin shot a worried look at Preston. "Dad, if Grandpa really hands over the shares to Allison, what about Jasper?" And more importantly, what about her?

In Yasmin's social circle, rich families usually gave a tiny slice of shares when their daughters got married, usually not more than 5%. Now, Hayden was giving all his shares to Allison, and Yasmin was losing her mind with jealousy. Preston was just as puzzled by Hayden's move. He needed to talk this over with Jasper.

Preston said, "Don't stress about it. Just focus on your studies and make sure you get into a top university!"novelbin

Getting into a prestigious university would give her the edge to marry into a high-status family. Once Yasmin married into such a family, Preston could solidify his position in the company.

Actually, Allison had a point. Even though Preston was the CEO, his skills were limited. Jasper, the general manager, had only been in charge for less than two years. Both of them had shaky foundations, and Hayden still had a lot of sway in the company.

So, there was no way those shares could go to Allison. With that in mind, Preston headed upstairs to call Jasper.

Meanwhile, Allison, who had just left the Bennett Villa, was about to hail a cab when she noticed a familiar car parked at the gate.

As soon as she stepped out, the car started and pulled up in front of her.

"Get in!" The driver was Alexander, which caught Allison off guard.

Alexander had mentioned earlier that he would have someone pick her up, but Allison hadn't taken it seriously.

So now, Allison hesitated. Should she get in the car? If she did, she would owe Alexander a favor. If possible, Allison wanted to stay away from Alexander, especially since he had once put out an online bounty on her.

"Are you worried about owing me a favor, or afraid I'll pester you? Allison, do you really think I'm that despicable?" Alexander was a bit ticked off by Allison's attitude. He had always been straightforward and honorable, so why was he being treated with such disdain by Allison?

Allison took a deep breath and reluctantly opened the passenger door. However, this scene was witnessed by Yasmin from the second floor. Yasmin couldn't see the man's face clearly. She felt a strong sense of disdain for Allison. Yasmin muttered, "What wealthy family would even want a notorious woman like you? Allison, you'll always be my rival in defeat!"

Once in the car, Allison's expression remained indifferent. Alexander glanced at her, asking, "Did someone bully you?" Alexander's voice was a bit hoarse, making Allison feel uneasy.

"How did you figure out I was bullied? Couldn't it be that I bullied someone else?" Allison looked at Alexander and asked.

A smile tugged at his lips.

Alexander said, "You may seem unapproachable, but you're soft-hearted towards others. It looks like Mia is the one clinging to you, but most of the time, you're the one accommodating her. If someone dares to bully Mia, you'd retribution upon them tenfold or a hundredfold. But when your family gives you a hard time, all you can do is bite your tongue and be patient."

Although Allison didn't want to admit it, it was an undeniable fact.

The car didn't head back to Oceanview Apartments but instead stopped in front of a restaurant, which surprised Allison.

"I haven't had dinner yet. Ms. Bennett, would you do me the honor of joining me for dinner?" Alexander spoke first. He said it was to accompany him for dinner.

But Allison knew that Alexander was actually doing it for her. She just couldn't figure out how he knew she hadn't eaten.

Alexander added, "This place serves up some amazing grub. You're gonna love it for sure!"

Allison had no choice but to follow Alexander into the restaurant.

After they ordered, while waiting for the food, Alexander and Allison started chatting again about her joining the Carter Group.

Allison asked, "Mr. Carter, why are you so set on me joining the Carter Group? From what I know, the Carter Group isn't even in the pharmaceutical game!"

Alexander nodded. "True, but I want you on board for our new project-AI medical robots! The Carter Group has always been a leader in AI, but yeah, pharmaceuticals aren't our strong suit."

Allison was taken aback. She had always thought a big company like the Carter Group would stick to real estate and other major industries. AI medical robots? That was a curveball.

For Allison, this was a super tempting offer. It fit perfectly with her background in both medicine and computer science.

But thinking about the recent project she had just taken on, Allison had to decline. "Mr. Carter, you know I'm about to graduate and still have a ton of courses to finish. I just don't have the time right now!"

Alexander didn't seem fazed. "You can join us after graduation. Allison, even though your grades at Maplewood High are just average, I know you won't let me down!" He was convinced her mediocre grades were intentional. People who show off their talents too early often burn out, but those who keep their skills under wraps can control everything from behind the scenes. That was the real mark of a leader.

"I'll think about it," Allison said, which was enough to make Alexander happy. He knew how hard it was to get her to even consider something.

The food turned out to be surprisingly delicious, and Allison was genuinely impressed.

"Good, right?" Alexander said, serving her more food. Allison, enjoying the meal, nodded and ate with gusto. "If you like it, you can come here often!"

Allison nodded and ended up eating quite a lot. Alexander, meanwhile, was busy serving her and didn't eat much himself.

After dinner, Alexander drove Allison back to her apartment. As she got out of the car, she thanked him. "Thanks for today, Mr. Carter!"

For some reason, being called Mr. Carter bugged Alexander. "Is that all?"

Allison frowned.

Seeing her frown, Alexander smiled. "When you have time, Ms. Bennett, you can treat me to a meal as a thank you. Deal?"

Allison nodded. Only then did Alexander drive away, feeling pretty good.

When she got back to her apartment, Felicity had already left after cleaning. The place was spotless, which made Allison happy. She thought she should start paying Felicity's salary herself, so she wouldn't owe Alexander too much. Allison had planned to buy a house in Skycrest. Even though Hayden had purchased a property for her long ago, she wanted nothing to do with anything from the Bennett Family.

But with graduation coming up and no decision yet on which university to attend, she wouldn't be staying here long. So, the house-buying plan had to wait.

She opened her computer and saw a bunch of emails that needed her attention. One of them was an invitation letter that made her pause.

It was from a prestigious research institute abroad, inviting her to join as a pharmaceutical expert and start a project right away.

Allison had never planned to attend college in this country. She wasn't interested in school courses because, with her skills, she could easily get into the world's top universities without even taking exams. But now, her original plan might be up in the air.

Her phone buzzed with a notification. It was a message from Alexander: [Don't overthink it. Just get a good night's sleep!]
