Chapter 36
Coincidentally, when Josiah and Yulissa arrived, Winnie was walking down the stairs.
Winnie never liked Yulissa. Even if I'm supposedly mentally challenged and she's the one Xavier truly loves, she should at least wait until I've divorced Xavier. Back then, Old Mr. Fairchild brought both our ID cards to register for our marriage. Therefore, it's still a legally binding marriage.
Winnie turned away the moment she saw them. She didn't want to greet them.
However, Josiah called out to her, "Hey, Winnie! You saw me, right? Why didn't you greet me?”
While standing on the staircase, Winnie looked down at him and mimicked his tone as she greeted, "Hey, Bad Specky!"
Josiah was momentarily stunned. "What's going on? Aren't you supposed to address me as Specky?"
Winnie didn't want to respond to that, so she merely giggled innocently.
"All right, then." Josiah shrugged and turned toward Yulissa. "That's just how she is. It's like she has the mind of a child. Don't worry, okay? She's not going to put up much of a fight."
Winnie was rendered speechless. You can treat me as a fool, but do you think I'm deaf?
Meanwhile, Yulissa was stunned when she saw Winnie, and she didn't quite agree with what Josiah said.
Didn't Xavier leave me because this dumb girl was sick last night? Also, how is she so pretty? I never expected Xavier's wife to be so pretty! Since technology is so advanced now, what if she gets cured? She's definitely going to be a threat! Still, I'm not going to lose Xavier. I'll do whatever it takes to have him!
When Josiah saw that Winnie was about to walk away, he quickly stopped her and asked, "Winnie, where's Handsome?"
Winnie blinked and hesitated. "He... could be dead."
"What?" Josiah panicked. "What do you mean? What nonsense are you talking about? He was still okay last night, no?"
Yulissa grew anxious as well. "Josiah, why are you asking her those questions? It's pointless. Let's go upstairs and check on him."Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.
With that, the two of them hurriedly went up.
Seeing that, Winnie uttered, "Handsome was mean to Winnie last night, so Winnie smashed his head with something, and Winnie hasn't seen him since. He should be dead by now. Otherwise, why is he not awake yet?"
"What the f*ck?" Josiah was amused. "Why didn't you say so? You've scared me and Ms. White, you know?"
Yulissa was actually worried. An inexplicable feeling rose from within when she glanced at Winnie's pretty face. "Did Xavier sleep with you last night?"
Before Winnie could answer, Josiah beat her to it. "What are you on about, Yulissa? Xavier doesn't even come here that often. Besides, didn't Winnie say that she hadn't seen Xavier since she smashed something against his head? If they did sleep together, she would've seen him already."
Yulissa's expression softened when she heard those words.
Josiah's head was throbbing. It's as if Yulissa is my first love instead of Xavier's! Why am I the one helping him and explaining things to her? Xavier should be doing this!
“Let's go up and check on Xavier. He should be in the study or in the guest room.” Josiah was very familiar with the place, so he brought Yulissa upstairs.
Since Winnie had nothing else to do, she decided to tag along.
Yulissa wasn't pleased. "Winnie, is it? Keep yourself entertained, okay? You don't have to follow us."
"No!" Winnie answered innocently. "I must go and make sure Handsome isn't dead yet!"
She wanted to tag along to make life difficult for Xavier.
"Fine. Come with us," Josiah uttered helplessly. "But why did you have to be so violent in the first place? When you see him later, remember to apologize to him. He hasn't really been in the best of mood!" Winnie giggled and acted as though she didn't understand a word.
Upon seeing that, Yulissa felt uneasy. Even when this idiot is giggling stupidly, she's still so beautiful! No wonder Xavier was captivated by her.
When they opened the door to the guest room, the choking smell of smoke invaded their sense of smell.
Josiah, who was at the front, quickly waved his hand in disgust.
Unlike everyone else, Josiah knew what was going on.
The dumbass Mr. Fairchild got married with messed him up real good. He must've felt utterly annoyed last night. He wasn't a smoker, but he started smoking when Yulissa left. As time passed, he gradually forgot about Yulissa and stopped smoking. He has already stopped smoking for a few years now. Why did he smoke again last night? The place is filled with smoke. Just how much did he smoke last night? "Xavier!" Yulissa wanted to be the one who appeared in front of Xavier first. Hence, she immediately rushed inside the moment the door opened.
Naturally, Josiah gave her the opportunity to do so.
Winnie, on the other hand, couldn't be bothered.
Right then, Yulissa was heard screaming, "Xavier! Xavier! What's wrong with you? Wake up! Josiah, come over and take a look at him!" "What's wrong?" Josiah rushed over.
Winnie walked in casually from behind.
When she got closer, she saw that Xavier was still wearing the same clothes as the night before, and he was sleeping without a blanket.
Did he really suffer an injury after what I did last night?
Josiah quickly figured out what had happened. "His temperature is slightly high. The injury on his head doesn't seem serious, so I doubt he's having a fever because of an infection. I think he just caught a cold. The window seems to have been left open since last night. There's nothing much to be worried about."
Once those words fell, Xavier opened his eyes.
As he had smoked a lot and had been exposed to the cold wind throughout the night, his voice was hoarse when he grumbled, "Why are you guys so noisy? I want to sleep."
"Xavier, I thought something bad happened to you. Why did you sleep without a blanket? You've startled me." Yulissa's eyes were brimming with tears.
