Chapter 12: The Phoenix Games
Chapter 12: The Phoenix Games
I stood in the mirror and watched myself. I wore a black leotard which captured my hourglass figure
pretty well. My breasts were huge, even made a little cleavage. My waist skinny, and my thighs large,
God really took her time when he formed this Venezuelan beauty that is me.
Marisa came over and hugged me from behind. "Hey, good luck out there,"
I held her arms for a short while and we broke off our hug. She looked at me in the mirror as well, she
plated the fishnet on my head. And dug in her sling bag to grab a red flowery Aliceband, the flowers
looked like they were on fire which spoke to me. "Marisa, aww. I love it,"
She kissed me on the cheek. I pointed at the mirror, "how do I look? And be honest,"
She scanned me and shook her head. "What? You look amazing,"
"Thanks. I feel so naked." Content is property of NôvelDrama.Org.
Jessica walked up to us. She wore the same black leotard, the first thing I did was search for her bulge.
But it seemed to me that she pulled it to the back because I couldn't see it. She folded her long slender
arms and smirked. "Ready?"
She's so fake. I used to like her a lot but each time I see her I want to cry.
"Hmm... Bessy..."
"It's... Bethany, The Bethany Wright," Marisa corrected. But leave her to let her say what she wants.
"Barbie, I wasn't talking to you,"
"Being called, Barbie could never be an insult. It just implies that you wanna kiss me. Now, skedaddle
because this," she pointed between us all, "disrespect, will NOT be tolerated,"
Jessica parted her lips to say something but Ms Janis came into the girl's locker room and demanded
attention. "Okay, girls and boys. I just wanted to say good luck on the field today. I know this has been
a dream to many of you and today your dream might become a reality. Kick arse out there and do your
absolute worse. After all, this game is about the beauty of death, Jessica!"
Jessica went over to Ms Janis, who acted strangely today. Normally she would be downright a bitch
towards me but not today. She was friendly and I appreciate that.
Marisa turned to me and gave me two thumbs up with an enormous smile plastered on her face. "Good
luck again, and have fun out there,"
I giggled. "Thanks, and thanks for standing up to Jessie for me,"
She didn't reply. She just grinned and was off.
Ms Janis had us all stand in two rows, boys and girls and told us that in official games the two teams
would be called and when we hear our school's name, we go on the field. But right now we just
followed her onto the field.
There weren't many spectators, a few supporters and a few actual fans who came to see the try-outs.
We said The Phoenix Rite and got on our birds which were already on the field. I stood on the cement
field, soon it will be covered in ashes. The field was large, and enclosed by the stadium seats that are
all around us.
The game has 24 players, 12 boys and 12 girls. But today we were about 100 who tried out. We had to
fight until there were either 12 girls or boys. The twelve is automatically on the team. But in this case,
11 boys because one boy has a certified spot.
Karan ran onto the field, why he was late? I had no idea. He wore sporty which caught me by surprise.
I didn't know he was also trying out.
"Oh, everyone. This is Karan, he's from Tah-bani and he was on their team. He was the best player and
now he'll be joining us. Please give him a warm welcome," Ms Janis welcomed.
We all clapped hands and cheered. We started the game, even if Karan wasn't already promised a
spot, he would've been on nonetheless. He was real good, he killed fast. Burning witches with his
natural flame. I joined him, I didn't know that was allowed.
The game went on for about an hour and there were only three players left. Karan, myself and Jessica.
Our birds flapped their wings as we all decided what to do next, staring each other down in suspicion. I
could feel the fans watching in anticipation, sitting on the edge of their seats. Nipping their nails.
I couldn't still think about what Karan's next move is. I wanted to kill that son of bitch that did something
to me although I don't know what it was. I just know she did something. I lit up my hand, holding tightly
onto the collar of my bird. I mustered as much flame as I could, and blasted Jessica with all I've got.
It happened so fast. That's what Karan did as well. We burned her, watched as our flame ate through
her stomach and spreading out to engulf all of her. She screamed. Never heard anyone scream that
loudly before, her throat will be sore when she wakes up. She looked at me in pure hatred, but I
couldn't mind. This was my turf, and she had to know. Her ashes fell on the ground, some flying into
the audience. She and her phoenix became nothing but a pile of grey dust.
Karan chuckled and looked at me. Two players left, the winner becomes the new captain since the
previous one just burnt to death. His scaly green eyes darted at me with a massive smile on his
slithering glittery face. He lifted his hands, he's going to use both his hand for me. His black fingertips
caught flame first, and so did my red hands.
Game-on.
I was much more terrified than he was, still holding onto the collar of my bird. Which made him even
more confident in winning the fight. But I wasn't planning on letting him win that easily.
I decided to trust my bird, they are very much playing this game as well, and we're a team. I let go of
the collar. He shot the first blaze, my bird covered us with his big wing and flew higher to quickly restore
its wing. He followed, shooting again. This time I made a flame shield, his flame shot against it but
couldn't penetrate. My heart sunk in relief because I wasn't sure if that was going to work or not. I shot
flames as well. He blocked it with a spell. I'm not the best with spoken spells without wands. Heck, I'm
not even good at performing spells with the wand. I depend on my fire for everything.
He shot again, I caught him off with a blaze of my own. The fire burnt out, which appeared to impress
the crowd. If we were going to shoot flames, we were going to have to touch each other directly. Since
if the flame touches each other it dies.
He said something, a spell and breathed out an enormous flame that came directly at us. We stood and
watched in panic, it neared us so fast. Started burning us before it could even touch us. I said one of
my favourite spells, "Twidroba!"
The fire consumed us but my bird and I turned to ashes without experiencing any of the pain that would
come with it. Like I mentioned before, I hate pain. So I try to avoid it as much as I can. So I know many
spells that's more or less the same.
I could feel how I slowly became nothing but air, saw as my ashes fell to meet the rest. I saw until I
couldn't see it anymore. Until I couldn't feel my quickened heartbeat anymore.

On earth my friends are Derek, he's a fairy, Sindra and Kin. A vampire hybrid. I walked over to her and
her friends to check upon them.
"How's it going here?" I asked.
Kin gave me a warm smile. She has the sexiest smile I've ever seen. I wish I could take it but her soul
doesn't play, she gets real scary. I looked over at Vincent, he had nasty skin. He had an outbreak of
acne. Ew. Nasty.
"Laura's phone got stolen. Someone broke into their home, came through the window," Kin informed.
I was shocked. That's terrible. "What happened? Did you get hurt?"
I hoped she didn't get hurt.
She shook her head. "No, I'm fine. It just happened so fast. My phone was on the table at the entrance
area and it got stolen. But it's okay, I've been looking for a really good excuse so that my parents could
buy me the latest iPhone. They only replace phones when it's a real need,"
I nodded my head. I'm glad that everything worked out good for Laura. I looked over at my friend
Jason. I like him. He didn't seem to notice that I'm here, even though I wore this bright flowery crop top
with my white high waisted shorts to show my legs. That's just how he is and didn't bother me so much.
But it did bother me. I don't know why even.
Maybe I like him. Maybe I don't. Not sure. I'll find out as time goes by.
I looked back at Vincent. He has a nasty face with all that giant pimples and black and whiteheads.
Gross. I looked at Laura again. She is so beautiful, I'm obsessed with her I wish we could be friends
but I'm way out of her league. Poor things phone got stolen and that via break-in, that must have been
terrifying. I can only imagine.
I thought about the situation. I found it a tad bit strange that Laura's phone got stolen since I stole the
phone spiritually. Also, the window got broke, like when I entered their home. And what about Vincent?
Could his face be like that because of me?
Do my spiritual actions have physical consequences?
