Chapter 9
Chapter 9
I hear an ear-splitting scream and instantly fence my eyes with my hand to prevent the dazzling light
radiating from inside.
Birthday? Whose birthday? I can't remember anyone's birthday.
Bright golden light disperses through the gap of my fingers and hits my face. When my eyes adjust to
the light, I remove my hand and slowly open my eyes. I blink a couple of times to clear my vision and
the sight comes into view.
What is...
I look at the two persons in front of me utterly shocked as they give me a happy smile in return. My
eyes slowly travel from one side to the other of the large room usually decorated modernly but now the
vibe is fully changed. It takes me seconds to realize what I am seeing and only one word comes to my
mind.
Amazing
The whole room and the ceiling are decorated with pink and white colorful balloons. Golden string lights
and streamers are hanging from the wall. There's a center table in the middle of the room with a
centerpiece on top of it and the whole table is garnished with all the mouth-watering desserts. On the
wall at the opposite side of the table, 'Happy Birthday our sweet girl' is written in big bold letters and the
words are shining for the string lights attached around them.
The whole room is adorned with stars that are radiating golden light for why it's looking so bright. I love
stars; they know that.
It's my birthday. I forgot.
So this is the surprise. That's why Nick hurriedly came here today.
I forgot my own birthday but they remembered it. I know they love me but I didn't expect this much.
Especially when the birthday girl herself forgets her birthday.
"Will you just behold the beauty or come here and cut the cake?" Nick's voice brings me out of the
Disneyland around me as I look at them.
They are wearing party hats standing behind the table, Nick has a knife in his hand wrapped up with
pink ribbon.
"If you don't want to come here, then fine. I am cutting the cake. No, I don't even need to cut, I will just
eat." Nick says as he pretends to grasp the cake.
"No, don't touch it. I will kill you, I swear." I shout, stopping him.
He twitches his eyebrows and looks at me with a smug look on his face.
"Oh really, baby? Do you know who did all these?" He says waving his hand in a circular motion
pointing to the room.
Then he points his finger to himself and Leah smacks his head.
"Have you done everything alone? We both did and now you are alone taking all the credits. What an
unfaithful baboon!"
"Don't call me that, I said."
"Really? What will you do, huh? BABOON."
"I said don't call me that."
"And I said I will."
"Shut up!"
"You shut up."
"You!"
"No, you."
"STOP!" I scream at the top of my lung and they hurriedly snap their attention to me.
I approach them angrily.
"Guys, you need to live in the asylum. Why are you at home? If you don't stop right now, I really won't
cut the cake trust me." I state.
They give me an apologetic look, "We are sorry. Please don't be mad. We did everything for you.
Smile. " Nick says, pouting.
I watch them with a hard face for some time then chuckle, "How could I stay mad at you two!"
I say and hug them both together as they grin and hug me back.
"Thank you very much for the surprise. I can't tell you how happy I am. It really means a lot to me." I
say grinning as we pull apart.
"Everything for you." They reply together.
"Now take it, birthday girl." Nick hands me the knife and wears me a party hat.
Taking it, I turn my gaze at the delicious-looking chocolate cake on the table. It's a round-shaped Cake
with a chocolate layer covering it and small colorful candles surrounding the whole in a circle. Roses
made with white whipped cream are placed on top of it in a curved line giving the cake a flowery look.
I can't wait to shove it into my mouth!
The night passes with lots of fun, eating, and noises. Though just the three of us here but the number
isn't really a problem when we are together. We throw cakes at one another, smear on our faces and
finally we finish our party at midnight while we look like ghosts and our beautiful apartment turns into a
ghost palace.
Dad would have a heart attack if he sees the house in this state.
We decide to clean the house tomorrow. After wishing goodnight, we go to our bed and welcome the
night.
The sleep engulfs me but not before I think of him once again.
.............
"Hey, sleeping beauty, wake up now. You are going to be late for office. By the way, why am I waking
you up? I'm not your dad, right? Evie! WAKE UP!"
I flutter my eyes open to the sound of Nick's shouting and banging on the door. I look around to see the
sun rays coming inside the room through the thin curtains.
"Evie, are you alive? My God, if I knew this is such hard work to wake this girl up, I would have never
let Leah go." Nick shouts continuing the banging.
The door is going to break now.
What a great way to start the morning!
"I am up! I am up! Stop it now." I shout getting down from the bed.
"Oh finally! I thought you were dead! Get ready quickly." Nick replies and walks away I guess.
I walk towards the washroom rubbing my eyes and pull my hair into a messy bun. It takes me thirty
minutes to get ready and when I open the door, it's 8:30 on the clock. That means I have thirty minutes
to get to the office on time. I usually skip breakfast and it takes 20 minutes to reach there, so I think I
wouldn't be late.
Opening the door, I enter the living room and see Nick sitting on the couch lazily playing games on the Còntens bel0ngs to Nô(v)elDr/a/ma.Org
phone.
"Hey Nicki, good morning." I greet as I put on my heels.
"Good morning." He says looking up from the phone, "By the way, where are you going?"
I chuckle, "For why you woke me up?"
"No, I didn't mean that. I want to say I am giving you a ride."
"Why? I have my car." I ask, staring at him in confusion.
He smiles sheepishly, "Leah stole your car, haha!"
"What? Why?"
I mean we all have our own cars. Though I and Leah share my car most of the time but if Leah has to
go anywhere alone, she uses her own.
"Because her car has broken down. Now shut up and come with me." He announces walking out of the
apartment swirling the key around his finger.
"Ok"
We walk to the parking lot and reach the gray Mercedes Benz which is now Nick's life. He tells me he
would drive today and I nod, sitting on the passenger side. Nick climbs in and starts the car.
"And I will also pick you up today. When you are done, message me."
I nod, "Alright."
