Trouble in Paradise

Chapter 0543

Chapter 0543

"Nich..." As Nicholas leaned in suddenly, I immediately fell silent. I did not doubt that if I said even one more word, his lips would press down without hesitation.

Our faces were inches apart. The intimate sound of our breaths tangled, slipping directly into each other's ears. The faint scent of tobacco grew increasingly heated. Unable to bear it, I shoved him hard.

Nicholas' dark eyes held a faint red glow, and his entire body seemed taut with restrained heat. For a moment, I thought he might snap and tear away the barriers separating us.

But he closed his eyes briefly. When he opened them, there was a trace of regret in his dark gaze. His voice was laced with mockery as he asked, "Why stop now?"

I pressed my lips tightly together. I didn't dare to utter another word under the weight of his predatory stare.

Nicholas didn't seem to care for a reply. He turned and strode off, opening one door after another on the first floor as if he owned the place.

By the third door, he couldn't help but complain, "What is this, a model home?"

Well, it was not entirely wrong, but at least it had a bit more furniture.Owned by NôvelDrama.Org.

After my mom passed, anything unnecessary was burned. I hadn't planned to stay long in the country, so I only prepared essentials. The other rooms lacked bedding since I didn't see the point in spending money on unused items.

"Nicholas, just leave. The only usable bedding in this house is in my room and the ones for Wendy and Tabitha. There's nothing extra," I stated firmly.

He frowned, clearly unhappy with my answer. His gaze darkened as he said, "Fine. I'll take your room then. It's not appropriate for me to use theirs."

He glanced at his watch and added casually, "Get some rest."

Before I could fully process his audacity, he began heading upstairs. Panicking, I rushed after him and grabbed his sleeve.

"Sleeping in my room isn't appropriate either!" I snapped.

Standing on the step above me, Nicholas turned to look back. He was already much taller than me, and with the added height of the step, I had to look up at him.

His deep voice seemed to press down on me. "I could take a guest room, but I hurt my back. Do you expect me to sleep on such a hard bedboard? There's no mattress, and not even a blanket to cover my belly button."

His black eyes glimmered faintly as he pressed his lips together. 'And I only hurt my back because you weren't walking properly."

I bit my lip, seething. Since when was Nicholas this unreasonable?

"Then call your secretary to bring over some bedding!" I finally relented.

"I told you, Beth isn't with me anymore," he explained patiently.

"You have more than one secretary! And it's not like you have clothes here either! Just leave, or I'll call the police!"

Nicholas chuckled, turning away with an amused glint in his eyes. "You sound like a child."

A child? I was already a mother!

I stood there, stunned by his remark. By the time I came to my senses, he was already far ahead.

I ended up clutching a blanket in Wendy's room, tossing and turning. I sat up as I couldn't fall asleep.

The thought of him lying on my pale yellow bedding made me itch with discomfort. He wasn't just any man-but my ex-husband.

I couldn't picture him in my girlish room.

Worse, his scent would cling to my things. How could I use them again? Would I have to throw everything out once he left?

While I was lost in my thoughts, the sound of the doorbell startled me.
