Chapter 409
Chapter 409
With a charming smile, Leah nodded. “Thanks for setting this up, Sophia. I won’t let you down.”
When Clara returned to the maid’s quarters, she barely stepped in before Rose shrieked, “Oh my gosh! What happened to your face? It’s so swollen!”
Hearing the voices, Clara finally came back to her senses, touching her swollen cheek.
“Ouch…”
“Good heavens! Did the butler hit you? He has no right to raise his hand! Come, I’ll confront him for you,” Rose declared, heading towards the door.
Clara quickly pulled her back!
“No need, it wasn’t the butler. I… accidentally ran into a wall.”
Rose frowned, puzzled, “How could you hit your face on a wall?”
Clara was silent.
Faced with such a persistent questioner, Clara was embarrassed.
“I… I just ran into the wall, that’s all… Don’t you have anything else to do?” she quickly changed the subject, fearing Rose would obsess over her injury.
“Nothing else to do.” Rose seemed to realize something. She sighed softly before saying, I have some anti-swelling cream. It should help ease the pain.”
Clara smiled gratefully, “Thank you.”
She carefully applied the cream on Clara’s face, then went to the kitchen and got a bag of ice for her to use as a cold compress.
“You really don’t have to be so nice to me. I’m not Mrs. Melendez anymore.”
“Even if you’re not Mrs. Melendez, you’re still my roommate! We have to live together,” Rose smiled, squinting her eyes, “I know, rich young masters pamper their women when they’re interested and discard them when they lose interest. That’s how they always portray it in the movies!”
Clara was taken aback, then laughed at Rose’s comment. She then said seriously, “But Emmett is not like that. We just have some misunderstandings…”
Rose tilted her head, puzzled, “If you know it’s a misunderstanding, why can’t you clear it up?”
That’s the problem.” Seeing that Rose couldn’t understand, Clara smiled, “Have you ever been in love?”
Rose shook her head, “No, I’ve been working for the Melendez family for two years now. I want to earn some money for my brother’s wedding, then think about myself. My mom says I’m a girl, and I don’t need to rush to find a boyfriend. I can get married anytime.” Content protected by Nôv/el(D)rama.Org.
Clara felt a pang of sympathy for the naive young girl in front of her. “Do you have any paper and pen?”
“Paper and pen?” Rose was stunned, “Yes, I do!”
‘Can I have them?”
“Of course.” Rose quickly got up and rummaged under the bed for a notebook and some ballpoint pens, “What do you need them for?”
“I like to draw designs,” Clara smiled.
“You can draw designs?” Rose looked at her admiringly, “I dropped out after middle school. Do you look down on me?”
“Not at all! Education only represents a person’s qualifications. Nothing more! You’re so kind. How could I think
ess of you?”
Rose smiled sweetly, “That’s good to hear was so nervous when I found out that we’d be sharing a room. Earlier, when we were cleaning the backyard, someone warned me to be careful of you. They said if I wasn’t careful, I might offend you. Then, if you and the young master got back together, I might be driven out of the Melendez family.”
