Chapter 16 My Wife is Hope
I checked the time, and it was already past two in the morning.
Christopher left work with Evelyn. How could he end up being with Ivan and get drunk?
He went out for drinks with Ivan and others? According to Ivan, Evelyn wasn’t even there.
When I tried calling Ivan again, his phone was already switched off, probably out of battery.
I had to change clothes and take a cab to their usual gathering place, a

private club.
Inside the room, there were only Ivan and Cecil, along with Christopher, who was dressed in a designer suit, legs crossed, peacefully asleep on the sofa.
Ivan looked helpless. “Hope, I don’t know what happened to Chris today. He keeps pushing drinks on Cecil. I can’t stop him.”
I had a faint idea of the reason.
Christopher stubbornly believed that there was something between Cecil and me.
Perhaps all men were like that. They could stray, but they would never allow even a hint of intimacy between their wives and someone else.
Even the slightest possibility was just his unreasonable suspicion.
I apologized as I looked at Cecil, who was sitting elegantly beside me.
“Cecil, are you okay? I brought some sobering medicine. Would you like some?”
He seemed quite drunk as well.
“Okay.”

Cecil regained some clarity. He looked up at me, cheeks flushed, eyes bright, resembling a schoolboy waiting for car03:2
I placed the medicine in his hand and handed him a glass of water. Im sorry for letting you get this drunk.”
“I don’t know what’s gotten into Chris. He keeps forcing him to drink. We all tried to stop it, but he just drank it all!” Ivan complained. Before I could think, he handed me the car keys. “Can you drive?”
“Yes.” I walked over to Christopher, enduring the smell of alcohol, and gently tapped his face. “Christopher, wake up. It’s time to go home.”
He furrowed his brow and irritably opened his eyes when he saw me, suddenly smiling like a fool. “Darling.”

At the same time, his large hand enveloped mine.
His dry palm felt cool.
Ivan chuckled proudly. “Hope, thank goodness I didn’t call Evelyn, or she’d be furious.”
In the corner, Cecil remained silent, his face lowered.
I tried to pull my hand away, but the intoxicated Christopher held on tighter than when he was sober. I couldn’t free my hand from his grip.
I had to go along with it.
Ivan helped me get him into the car before attending to the equally intoxicated Cecil.
As I sat in the car, the first thing I did was roll down the window. I used to be fine with the smell of alcohol, but today, it made me slightly nauseous.
The road was clear at this time.
I was awakened in the middle of the night, and combined with the events of the day, I was already filled with anger. So, I pressed the gas and brake pedals abruptly.
Christopher seemed uncomfortable with the sudden movements and muttered impatiently, Donald, slow down!”
“No way.” I blurted out.
Christopher seemed like he was about to vomit.
“Don’t vomit on my car.” I shuddered at the thought.
I didn’t like the sight or sound of someone vomiting, and being pregnant now made it even more unbearable for me.
I knew that if he vomited, I would likely follow suit.
After he let out a belch and quieted down, my tense nerves relaxed.
After about ten minutes, the car slowly pulled into the driveway.
“We’re home, Christopher,” I said as I opened the car door.
Unexpectedly, the man who was completely drunk collapsed along with me as I opened the door.
1 furrowed my brow and had to support him. “Can you walk by yourself?”
He didn’t respond.
I had to call Donna, who was sound asleep, to help me carry Christopher back to the room..
“Mrs. Valence, do you need any help?” Donna asked.

“No, you can go back to sleep.”
I felt embarrassed for disturbing her sleep and didn’t want to trouble her further.
After Donna left, despite feeling nauseated from the alcohol fumes, I helped Christopher take off his shoes and tie. I stood up straight, preparing to go downstairs.
As I turned around, I realized that he had suddenly grabbed my hand.
With his eyes closed, he murmured, “Darling.”
I didn’t think he was calling me. It was more likely that Christopher and Evelyn had reached the stage of calling each other Honey and Darling.
I reached out to open his eyelids. “Christopher, recognize who I am.”
“Darling.”
Christopher wasn’t cooperating.
He turned away from my actions, holding my hand tighter, and whispered, “Hope. My wife is Hope.”
My heart skipped a beat. I reminded myself that Christopher was just drunk.
I didn’t need to take his words seriously.
When he’s sober, he would choose someone else.
I pursed my lips and said lightly, ‘Is that so? But you don’t even like her. You married a woman you don’t like. I’m
sorry.”
His words in the office with Bentley were etched clearly in my mind.
‘Hope, don’t make mistakes again.”
Christopher rubbed the back of my hand, his cold face showing a hint of satisfaction. He slurred, “My wife is great. +10
She’s the best woman.”
“At least your eyes are still working.”
Since I married into the Valence family, I have tried my best with the elders and Christopher.
Even if Christopher didn’t like me, he couldn’t find fault with me.
Christopher mumbled something I couldn’t quite hear. Thinking no one was around, he fell back asleep.
After he was sound asleep, I pulled my hand away and went downstairs to prepare lemonade for him.
Christopher often woke up in the middle of the night after drinking. A glass of lemonade would prevent him from
feeling dizzy the next day.

It had become a habit over the past three years. Even though I had prepared divorce papers and moved out of this house that didn’t belong to me any longer, I still instinctively took care of him.
As I stirred and strained the lemon peels, I suddenly realized what I was doing. I slapped my forehead in frustration.
“What was I doing?”
I wanted to leave, but the lemon would have gone to waste. Oh well, I would just consider it a good deed to take care of a stray dog.
I found a reasonable excuse.
After mixing and straining the lemonade, I carried it upstairs.
I intended to leave it by the bedside and go, but as I approached the bed, I met a pair of blue eyes.
I was taken aback and felt somewhat uneasy. “You’re awake.”
“Yes.”
“This was the lemonade that I prepared for you. I nervously placed the cup on the bedside. “If you want it, drink it. If not, you can throw it away.”
I was about to leave immediately.
However, Christopher, who had been unconscious half an hour ago, suddenly reached out and tightly grabbed my
waist.
“Darling, can we not get a divorce, please?”
