Chapter 393
Lemira fell silent for a moment.
From the other side of the phone, Asher's voice cut through, "Lemira, you're not allowed to come to the hospital. It's all your fault Lucian and Alaric ended up like this. You have no right to show your face here!" Hogan, frantic, blurted out, "Boss, how can you say that?"
"Am I wrong? Who else is Lucian in the ER because of?"
"But it's what our boss wanted. The person he most wants to see right now is Ms. Lemira. It's his wish; you can't stop her!"
Holding the phone, Hogan's voice was filled with pleading, "Ms. Lemira!"noveldrama
"I didn't say I was coming to the hospital. Just a bit of blood loss, he won't die from that."
Lemira wasn't naive. She wasn't about to rush to the hospital over such a manipulative tactic.
When she died in her past life, she was all alone, too.
Her so-called brothers were all at Evelina's side then.
Lemira simply hung up the phone.
Hogan, looking at the disconnected call, slumped, utterly defeated.
Asher, incredulous, stared at his phone, "She just hung up? She's really not coming? The person being resuscitated is her own brother!"
"Boss, weren't you the one who said she shouldn't come?"
"That was said in the heat of the moment. How could she possibly not come?"
Hogan forced a smile, "Boss, there's no need for hostility among family. We could have a decent conversation."
"Wasn't I being decent enough?"
"Boss, you've faced your enemies with a smile before. So why do you have to lash out at Ms. Lemira? I don't get it. Shouldn't family be even more patient, understanding, and caring?" Hogan couldn't understand it at all.
Now Lucian understood, but it was too late for Ms. Lemira; her heart was already too hurt for regrets to matter.
Asher was left speechless, not believing he was in the wrong.
Lemira made a mistake, but did that mean he had to sweet-talk her?
Impossible!
Eve would never have acted like Lemira.
As night deepened, Lucian was wheeled out of the OR.
Unconscious, his lips were still murmuring Lemira's name.
Asher felt a pang of discomfort, "Even now, he's still calling out for that ingrate?"
An assistant by Asher's side reported, Boss, the company's system hasn't suffered any more cyber-attacks, but our stock has taken a hit. The shareholders are demanding answers."
"I know, we'll deal with it tomorrow."
Asher glanced at Hogan, "You've met Mr. Draven back in Lyria, right?" "Correct."
"And that man beside Lemira?"
"He's the school doctor from Ms. Lemira's high school. Seems he's on good terms with Mr. Draven."
Asher narrowed his eyes, "Just a school doctor? Did you check?"
"We did. He's just a regular school doctor. Ms. Lemira ran away with this man, but with Mr. Draven's help, we've never been able to locate where Ms. Lemira was staying."
Just a regular school doctor?
Then it seemed he was mistaken. After all, a member of the prestigious Everhart family rarely mingled outside their elite circle, a circle Asher couldn't penetrate.
Given the high status of the Everhart member, he probably wouldn't be working as a mere school doctor. Probably just lucky to know Mr. Draven.
Asher breathed a sigh of relief. All's well that ends well.
Lemira didn't return to school this time. Over the weekend, she went back to her apartment for her live stream. Upon arriving, she saw a pair of men's shoes in the entrance. With a kick, she sent them flying into the closet. Lemira didn't feel like eating; she had no appetite.
When she started her live stream, her mood wasn't the best, but she still went through with a PK as usual.
With the game releasing a new character, Lemira demonstrated the new moves and techniques for her audience.
Toward the end of the stream, during a casual chat, someone brought up the plummeting stock prices of the Langston Group.
